Rainy Day Playground Safety

A little rain doesn't always mean the playground has to close - but wet conditions can create hazards that should be checked before play continues.

After rainfall, watch for:

• Slippery decks, steps, climbers and slides
• Standing water in play areas or accessible routes
• Washed-out or displaced playground surfacing
• Erosion around borders, footings and slopes
• Mud, leaves or debris creating slip and trip hazards
• Damage following heavy rain, wind or storms

⚡ And if there’s lightning or severe weather, the playground should be cleared until conditions are safe.

A quick inspection after a storm can help catch small issues before they become bigger safety or maintenance problems.

What a transformation!

The outdoor space at the Lanigan Day Care Expansion Project went from rough, unfinished dirt and gravel to a clean, green inviting space with new artificial turf. The finished area gives the day care a more comfortable, practical outdoor space for everyday play while creating a much brighter and more welcoming environment for the kids.

Projects like this area great example of how the right surfacing can completely change the look and function of an outdoor space.

We would like to thank the Lanigan Day Care Expansion Project team, TSL Mechanical and Failler Skidsteer Service for all of the help!

🎉 Project Complete – Legacy Park Elementary School, Weyburn, SK!

What a transformation! 👏

Northland Recreation Supply is proud to have completed the installation of two brand-new swing sets, providing 16 new swings for students to enjoy at Legacy Park Elementary School in Weyburn.

This project included:
✅ Two new commercial swing sets
✅ 16 total swing seats
✅ New engineered wood fibre (EWF) safety surfacing
✅ New treated timber border installation
✅ A safe, durable, and inviting play space built for years of fun

Seeing projects like this come together is why we love what we do. Every community deserves a safe, engaging place where children can play, grow, and make memories.

☀️ Play Safe. Stay Hydrated. Keep the Fun Going! 💧🛝

Summer is playground season, and there's nothing better than watching kids climb, slide, swing, and explore! But when temperatures rise, it's important to keep everyone safe while they play.

Here are a few simple tips for a great day at the playground:
💦 Bring plenty of water and encourage kids to drink often—even before they feel thirsty.
🍎 Pack healthy snacks like fruit, vegetables, cheese, or granola bars to keep energy levels up.
🧢 Wear hats, sunscreen, and lightweight clothing to stay protected from the sun.
🌳 Take breaks in the shade to cool down, especially during the hottest part of the day.
🌡️ Always check playground equipment before use. Metal slides and dark surfaces can become very hot in direct sunlight.

🌿 Project Spotlight | Lanigan Co-operative Day Care 🌿

We're proud to showcase another completed project that gives children a safer, more engaging place to learn and play!

For the Lanigan Co-operative Day Care, our top notch Team - Stephen Prodaehl, Colin Harcourt and Mark Rolfes transformed another outdoor play space into an oasis:

✅ Over 5,000 sq. ft. of premium artificial turf
✅ Engineered Wood Fibre (EWF) surfacing throughout the remainder of the play yard
✅ Custom turf hill with an integrated hill slide, steps and climber
✅ Improved accessibility, safety, and year-round usability
✅ A clean, durable outdoor environment designed for active play

The result is a beautiful outdoor space that encourages imagination, movement, and exploration while reducing maintenance and providing excellent drainage and accessibility.
