Mind-Aid Muskoka

Mind-Aid Muskoka Mental health navigation and support for young people in Muskoka. It is not always clear where to start when you are embarking on a journey to mental wellness.

If you, or someone you care about, are struggling mentally, we may be able assist you in getting the help needed. Our Mobile Youth Hub is gearing up for another busy season!

We had a ton of fun last year travelling throughout Muskoka – and we can’t wait to do it again this year! And we love that our Mobile Hub is wrapped in an awesome design by local Emily Lakatos.

Here’s a little throwback to yourTV Muskoka’s feature on Emily and the inspiration for her design.

A student at Huntsville High School was selected as the winner of the design the hub contest for Mind-Aid Muskoka.

Our Mobile Hub is out and about, doing cool things in the community!

Like hanging out with young people who are part of the Youth Adult Centre (YAC) at Gravenhurst Against Poverty. A few weeks ago, Kelly showed the youth how to do alcohol ink on tiles and the youth got to design their own unique buttons to take home.

We had so much fun and can’t wait to head back there soon!

Oh no! Our online donation form seems to be a little glitchy.

A few folks told us they weren’t able to make donations using our online CanadaHelps donation form. Although it seems to be working again, we really hope we don’t miss out on donations from caring people in our community because of a technical issue. If you’ve been trying to make a donation and experienced an issue, please let us know!

And fun fact: we also accept donations by e-transfer! Donations can be sent to [email protected], even if our online form goes wonky! 🤪

If you don’t have access to Primary Care (a doctor or nurse practitioner), come by the free walk-in wellness clinic on Tuesday, May 19 from 2pm- 7pm at the Agilec parking lot in Bracebridge (195 Wellington St).

This is an OPEN visit for any young person 29 and under (12 and under need to have a parent with them) to swing by and say hello to Suzanne, the Mobile Hub’s very own Nurse Practitioner. Come hang out with the team and learn about what the Hub has to offer.

We have snacks, games, crafts, and activities. The Hub acts as One Right Door to mental health services, a nurse practitioner, food security, financial and victim support, employment and financial assistance, and much more.

Come by and say hello! 👋

We are always happy to see you!

The stigma around mental health is preventing men and boys from reaching out for the help they need.

It’s something we’re noticing at MiND-AID. For children and teens who were referred to us by their parents, 24% were male and 27% were female. The numbers change when they become adults. Only 1/3 of young adults who reached out were male, compared to 2/3 female.

To help address the issue, the Government of Canada is developing a Men and Boys' Health Strategy. The goal is to create supportive and safe environments, challenge harmful stereotypes, reduce stigma and encourage men of all ages to seek help when they need it.

The questionnaire is open to people who live in Canada and are 16 years of age or older.

If you’d like to complete this short online questionnaire, you can complete it at the link here: https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/healthy-living/improving-health-men-canada.html

The questionnaire closes on June 1.

April was a MONTH!

Between getting our Mobile Hub ready for the road and preparing for our first-ever Radiothon with Hunters Bay Radio, there was also a special night to honour Jody at the Women of Distinction Awards Gala hosted by YWCA Muskoka.

We’re sending a big bunch of congratulations to all of the award recipients and nominees for their amazing contributions to their community. Muskoka is better because of you!
