Effective at 12 p.m. (noon) PDT on Friday, July 11, Category 2 open fire and associated equipment and activities will be prohibited across the Southeast Fire Centre. This prohibition will remain in place until 12 p.m. (noon) PDT on Oct. 30, 2025, or until the public is otherwise notified.

A Category 2 open fire means an open fire that burns:
• Material in one pile not exceeding 2 metres in height and 3 metres in width
• Material concurrently in two piles, each not exceeding 2 metres in height and 3 metres in width
• Stubble or grass over an area that does not exceed 0.2 hectare

Category 2 open fire prohibition also includes the following equipment and activities:
• Fireworks
• Binary exploding targets
• Burn Barrels or Burn Cages of any size or description
• Controlled air incinerators

This prohibition does not include Category 1 campfires that are a half-metre high by half-metre wide or smaller.

NACFOR Annual Open House is on Wednesday, June 18th from 6-8pm at the Nakusp Community Auditorium.

Information about our operations, business management, donations, educational partnerships, stewardship and much more will be available.

There will also be other industry organizations there, like Nakusp FireSmart, Regional District of Central Kootenay FireSmart, Interfor, Nakusp & District Volunteer Fire Dept, Ministry of Forests, and Arrow Lakes Caribou Society.

Effective at 12:00 noon Pacific Time on Friday, May 30, 2025, Category 3 open fire will be prohibited throughout the Southeast Fire Centre.

A Category 3 open fire refers to any fire that burns:
- Material concurrently in 3 or more piles, each not exceeding 2 metres in height and 3 metres in width
- Material in one or more piles, each exceeding 2 metres in height or 3 metres in width
- One or more windrows, not exceeding 200 metres in length or 15 metres in width
- Stubble or grass over an area exceeding 0.2 hectares (2,000 square metres)

Also prohibited is the following equipment and activities:
- Air curtain burners
- Carbonizers
