Happy Saturday everyone.

I am sharing two screen shots of very useful, but short and simple, posts to help voters select school board trustees that reflect your values and know what a Trustee can and can't do.

Thanks you to Lizanne Foster and Willow Reichelt, SD33 School Trustee for the insight.

I am grateful that our current board has not had this in our board room. We are of one-mind on SOGI and all anti-bullying efforts in our schools. We also have lots to do for students without wasting time on topics that aren't even the responsibility of school boards.

The 3 Trustee-teers....!
All for One and One for All.

Having an orange-fully fun afternoon at the annual Nanaimo-Gabriola Island BCNDP and Nanaimo-Ladysmith NDP picnic at Bowen Park Picnic Shelter. Mark Robinson and Re-elect Chantelle Morvay for Nanaimo-Ladysmith School Board Trustee and I were among many of the Nanaimo Duncan & District Labour Council endorsed candidates in the upcoming local elections enjoying the bar b q and the company of other working families.

Nanaimo Ladysmith Public Schools District is the largest employer in the region, as well as the largest union employer. I am incredibly proud of the amazing CUPE Local 606 and Nanaimo District Teachers' Association staff that keep our schools safe, clean and help kids belong, grow and thrive.

A full-circle moment for my neighbourhood and myself this afternoon, with the official opening of the South Wellington Community Centre, in the renovated former South Wellington elementary school.

Before becoming a Trustee, I sat with a team of my neighbours in a steering committee for the Regional District of Nanaimo to re-purpose the school to a new community hub.

Once elected, the board (without me as I would have been in conflict for my work on the project) voted to extend a 25 year lease to the RDN rather than take provincial dollars to tear it down.

This kind of inter-agency collaboration gets things done, and frankly its what tax payers expect. The relationships between staff and elected leaders is what gets projects like this across the finish line.

Team Rokeby right here.
These wonderful people are my rock, my comfort and my inspiration.

One of the best things about Lisa and I making careers in education has been the quality time we spend together each summer. For 2026, we produced Women of the Fur Trade and toured the Island together. We also took up hiking, making our way to Ammonite Falls, Te' Tuxwtun, Mount Washington and Paradise Meadows. As we approach the final two weeks, Nathan is away at Improv Camp on Gambier Island, while Lisa and I prepare Franklin logistically and ourselves emotionally for his move to UBC September 1st.

They have my back and I have theirs. Always.

They had my back four years ago when I told them I wanted to leave the classroom and serve public education as a school board trustee. I wasn't sure I would win, but I knew my family would be proud of me either way.

This summer, they let me know that they will have my back as I run for re-election this fall.

I am proud of the work the board has accomplished over the last four years, and I look forward to sharing that with you, and our plans moving forward, during the campaign and at Rokeby.ca.

However, I am most proud of the culture that the current board has brought to district governance. The current team of trustees has created a board room where everyone is respected, everyone is heard, everyone belongs.

Because that is what we want for students.
And if its going to happen for students, it has to start with us.

I would appreciate your support, and your vote on October 17th.

Showing up to support BC Nurses.

Learning about the prevalence of workplace violence for these professionals pushes this issue beyond wages and staffing (which need to be improved) to fundamental workplace safety and respect.

The line continues at NRGH Tuesday.
Give our amazing health care workers a honk, or find some time to join them on the line.

It has been an incredibly busy couple of weeks between Indigenous Grad at Barsby, Living Library at Fairview elementary, and tonight's seawall photos with NDSS grad 2026.

But I did want to share what an honour it is to be asked to help lead such a fantastic team of school board trustees.
