It’s Okay to Feel Heavy During the Summer

As the warmer months arrive, many people look forward to sunny days, gatherings, and creating new memories.

However, for those grieving the death of someone they love, this season can also bring difficult emotions and reminders of what has changed.
Grief does not disappear simply because the seasons change. It is okay if summer feels heavy sometimes.

Here are a few gentle reminders from our counselling team for anyone navigating grief during this season:

đź’š Reflect and remember those you have lost
đź’™ Seek support from trusted people and community
đź’š Honor your vulnerability with self-care and compassion
đź’™ Adjust your expectations and be gentle with yourself
đź’š Remember that grief and healing are not linear processes

What you are experiencing is okay.

Thank you to our counsellor, Ann Seaweed, for sharing these thoughtful reflections and words of comfort with our community.

We are grateful to serve and learn from the many communities that make Nanaimo stronger, kinder, and more connected.

Community Healthcare Awareness: Canadian Men's Health Month

June is Men’s Health Month — a reminder that health includes mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

Many men face challenges such as stress, anxiety, isolation, substance use, grief, and difficulty reaching out for support.
Too often, conversations about health and mental wellness are delayed or avoided altogether.

We recognize the importance of compassionate conversations, emotional support, and reducing stigma around mental health and wellness.
Checking in with a friend, loved one, coworker, or family member can make a meaningful difference. Support begins with conversation.

Community Update: National Indigenous History Month

June is National Indigenous History Month in Canada — a time to learn about, reflect on, and recognize the rich histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis Peoples.

We acknowledge the importance of listening, learning, and continuing the journey toward reconciliation in our communities.

We encourage everyone to take time this month to explore Indigenous history, cultures, voices, and stories, and to reflect on how we can all contribute to reconciliation and understanding.
