Sexual Assault Services (SAS) Support Program
SAS provides services to survivors in Oceanside and Nanaimo who have experienced sexual violence. This program works to provide a safe and supportive environment for survivors of all genders and ages as they manage the impact of sexual violence. This program focusses on emotional and practical support, crisis accompaniment to services (hospital and police), connection to resources in the community, support for court and safety planning.
Required skills and abilities: Volunteers for this position must be over the age of 19, have a valid BC Driver’s licence and have a clear Criminal Record Vulnerable Persons check, which is paid for by the agency. Must have experience working with vulnerable or at-risk clients in the social service sector, an understanding of an ability to support people from a trauma informed, trauma responsive and culturally safe perspective. This position also requires excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to support people who are in crisis. All volunteers will be required to complete the MISAS volunteer training program. Local Coordinator
Help create inclusive communities through the power of sport. Special Olympics BC is seeking a Local Coordinator to help lead and support the local delivery of Special Olympics in Nanaimo and Parksville (2 positions available). As Local Coordinator, you will work with the Local Committee, coaches, volunteers, athletes, families and provincial staff to support the overall operation of your Local. You will help to coordinate volunteers, support program planning and registration, promote Special Olympics in the community and ensure programs are delivered safely and effectively. Training, resources, and ongoing support are provided by Special Olympics BC. Required skills and abilities include leading a team, strong written and in-person communication and organization.
