LITERACY CENTRAL VANCOUVER ISLAND (LCVI)
Seniors Smartphone Literacy Workshop Facilitators (Android and/or Apple)
LCVI is looking for volunteers to facilitate presentations to seniors to increase digital literacy with their Smartphones. Workshop facilitators will teach seniors how to maximize their Android OR Apple smartphone skills from basic tasks such as adding a contact, to more advanced tasks such as using widgets. Volunteer facilitators will be accompanied by LCVI staff who can co-present or act as learning assistants. Intermediate to advanced smartphone literacy in Apple or Android is required, along with the ability to present basic to complex topics to seniors in an engaging way through immersive teaching strategies. Android and Apple workshops are separate workshops. An RCMP Criminal Record Check is required and is paid for by the agency.
Digital Literacy Trouble shooters – Smartphones, Tablets and Laptops
LCVI offers “Tech Cafes” as informal events where seniors can get help troubleshooting their various technological needs. Volunteers are required to assist with troubleshooting for Android and Apple platforms. Sessions typically run from 1 to 2 hours. Intermediate to advanced Smartphone, tablet and laptop skills are required, as well as strong interpersonal skills and the ability to meet seniors “where they’re at” to bring them to a place of comfort using their technology. An RCMP Criminal Record Check is required and is paid for by the agency.

Reception
Volunteer Nanaimo is looking for receptionists for our front desk. Duties include answering our phones, booking tax appointments, and answering emails. A pleasant telephone manner, good organizational skills, basic Word skills and some familiarity with Gmail are required; a sense of humour is essential! BGC Central Vancouver Island is looking for future Board members who will help guide the future of BGCCVI and make a lasting impact in the lives of children, youth and families in the communities served by BGC. They are currently looking to welcome new General Directors as well as someone willing to take on the role of Board Chair. Particular experience with Finance and Governance would be preferred, but is not required. An RCMP Criminal Record Check is required and is paid for by the agency. Nanaimo Foodshare connects people with the knowledge, resources, and skills to grow, share, and access healthy food to improve food security across the region. Food share’s board members are ambassadors, and other activities include community/donor networking, representing Nanaimo Foodshare publicly and growing our engaged audience. They are seeking individuals who bring diverse perspectives and experiences to their team. Skills in board governance, human resources, accounting, strategic planning or legal systems are valuable assets, but not required. The time commitment is approximately 5-6 hours per month, with Board meetings every two months. Participation in at least one committee is required.
