What is one kind thing you can say to yourself today?
For many of us, self-criticism comes naturally. We notice our mistakes, focus on our shortcomings, and hold ourselves to standards we would never expect of others.
But what if we spoke to ourselves with the same compassion we offer a friend?
✨ "I'm doing the best I can with what I have today."
✨ "It's okay to rest."
✨ "I don't have to be perfect to be worthy."
✨ "I've made it through difficult days before."
✨ "I deserve the same kindness I give to others."
The way we talk to ourselves shapes our inner world—and over time, our inner world shapes how we experience the world around us.
Self-compassion isn't always easy. It can feel awkward, uncomfortable, or even undeserved at first. But like any skill, it becomes easier with practice.
Today, try noticing your inner voice. If it's being harsh, pause and ask yourself:
💭 What is one kind thing I can say to myself right now?
You might be surprised by how much difference a few gentle words can make.

Stories like Marty’s remind us that because strength looks different every day, support needs to be there every day too. That’s the impact we’re building together through the Brainstrong Team.💫

This June, we invite you to join the Brainstrong Team, a community of monthly donors helping ensure support is always there. Through monthly giving, members help ensure support is there through it all, in group programs, peer support, education, and everyday moments of connection.🥰

Last week, a group of NBIS Volunteers completed Applied Su***de Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) with Vancouver Island Crisis Society.💫

We are grateful for their professionalism, expertise, and compassionate approach in helping our team build skills to better support people in crisis.

Thank you to the Brain Injury Alliance for funding another important training opportunity for NBIS💚

Coming up on June 10th.👌

Navigating taxes, benefits, pensions and government programs can be overwhelming. We get it. That's why a Support Clinic with Canada Revenue Agency and Service Canada is coming to the SOS Community Services Centre on June 10 to help.

Come by, ask questions, learn about programs and benefits you may be eligible for, and get help understanding what's available to you. Learn more about benefits, credits, pensions, tax information, the Canada Disability Benefit, dental care programs and other government services.

We will also have:
✔ Two SOS volunteer tax preparers onsite to help residents with low to modest income get their basic tax returns prepared and filed
✔ An SOS staff member available to answer questions about the wide range of SOS programs and services, volunteering opportunities and community supports
✔ Drop-in service — no appointment necessary

📅 June 10, 2026
🕙 10 am to 3 pm
📍 SOS Community Services Centre, 245 Hirst Ave. W., Parksville

Important: Please bring ID (photo ID preferred).

Sometimes all it takes is a little help navigating the system. Please share this post with people in your life who may find this Clinic helpful!😊

“Although the initial impact of a brain injury can be readily obvious to others, the duration and extent of mental, physical and emotional impacts can and have lasted for years… all of which is invisible to everyone around me.”

Brain injury doesn’t always end when recovery looks complete.
Education helps people understand the long-term and often invisible impacts that remain💚 Monthly donors make this possible by supporting education grounded in real, lived experience.

Join the Brainstrong Team and help build understanding beyond appearances.
