A Little Facebook Food for Thought…

The Town of Nanton page is a place to share information, ask questions and have conversations about our community. We know people won’t always agree — and that’s okay! Different perspectives are part of a healthy community.

We simply ask that conversations remain respectful and constructive. Ask questions, raise concerns, offer suggestions and share your point of view, just keep the focus on the issue rather than an individual.

It’s been said, “Praise in public, criticize in private.” There’s still something to be said for that approach.

Comments containing personal attacks, insults, name-calling, inappropriate language or comments directed at an individual/department rather than the issue will be deleted. This is in accordance with the Town’s Communications, Correspondence and Social Media Policy.

And when someone does something great? Tell them! A positive comment can go a long way. ❤️

For concerns involving specific circumstances, individuals, properties, departments or matters that require a more detailed conversation or follow-up, please contact the Town Office or use our online reporting portal. Submissions through the portal go directly to the CAO, are formally documented and can be assigned to the appropriate department for review and follow-up. This helps ensure your concern reaches the right person rather than getting lost in a Facebook comment thread.

Different opinions are welcome. Respect is expected. Let’s keep the conversation constructive and focused on our community.

🚐 Getting around Nanton is about to become even easier!

Starting Tuesday, September 1, 2026, the Better Together Community Shuttle will run two days per month to help you access local services, visit shops, and stay connected with friends and neighbours across town. 👋

Service begins at 10:00 a.m. with the first pick-up at Silver Willow Lodge, stopping at key spots around the community including the health clinic, pharmacy, library, and local businesses. Hop on and off as you please—it is only $2 per person to ride all day! 🎟️

Mile 56 Visitor Information Centre – Landscaping Update

Residents may notice additional landscaping activity at the Mile 56 Visitor Information Centre site over the coming weeks as work continues toward completion of the project.

The landscaping portion of the Mile 56 project is not yet complete and has not received final acceptance by the Town. During the project review, outstanding items were identified that must be addressed by the contractor before the landscaping work can be considered complete. This includes areas where the grass and landscaping have not established as intended and require additional attention.

The landscaping contractor will be returning to the site to address these areas and complete the outstanding work. This work is covered under the existing contract and will be completed at no additional cost to the Town.

This follow-up is part of the project completion process and ensures the contractor meets the standards and expectations established in the contract. The Town will continue to work with the contractor and review the site before the landscaping portion of the project is formally accepted as complete.

The Mile 56 project was designed to improve the area surrounding Nanton’s Visitor Information Centre and create a welcoming, functional green space at an important entrance to our community. Landscaping and naturalized areas take time to establish, and the appearance of the site will continue to change as the grass, plants and vegetation grow and mature.

We recognize residents may have questions when they see additional work taking place at the site. The Town continues to oversee the project to ensure the requirements of the contract are met before the work is accepted as complete.

⚠️ Badger Sighting – Near Nanton Veterinary Clinic

The Nanton Veterinary Clinic has advised that a badger has been spotted just west of their parking lot.

If you are walking in the area, especially with dogs, please keep pets on a leash, give the badger plenty of space and do not approach or attempt to interact with it.

Badgers are generally happy to keep to themselves, so please give Mr. Badger some room to carry on his way safely.

Please use extra caution in the area and help spread the word to other pet owners.

Community Connection Wednesday: Development Department Spotlight

Planning and Development is about more than permits and paperwork!

Many of the rules that guide development come from provincial legislation and regulations, as well as municipal bylaws and plans adopted by Council. The Development Department helps residents, property owners, builders and businesses understand and navigate those requirements.

From a home renovation or new build to opening a business or planning a larger development, the department helps applicants understand the process and what is needed to move their project forward.

Employment Opportunity – Assistant Utility Operator

The Town of Nanton is accepting applications for a permanent full-time Assistant Utility Operator.

This is an entry-level position working with the Town’s utilities team in the operation and maintenance of Nanton’s water, wastewater and stormwater systems, with opportunities to gain experience and work toward required operator certifications.

Wage: $33.21/hour, plus applicable overtime and on-call rates
Deadline: September 18, 2026 at 4:00 p.m., or until a suitable candidate is found.
