Rule Breaking Aside - Sorry! Had to capture this beautiful pic of the latest The Civic Theatre respawn in the old College Chapel on 10th street. Over the month of July they have done an amazing job setting up their operations. The theatre is cozy, and even on a hot summer’s night the cool outside breeze coming down the hill swept through the building, keeping everybody wonderfully comfortable. The screen looks amazing, the sound was amazing, the Odyssey was amazing. They continue to fundraisers to support their work in the Civic Center. Please give generously.

Had a great few days in Victoria with this crew for UBCM Advocacy Days.
We went to bat for some stuff that really matters out here — making sure local governments keep the financial tools we need to build infrastructure, pushing back on impossible compliance deadlines being handed to small rural communities with no staff or money to meet them, keeping climate action funding flowing, and making some noise about the fact that homelessness planning kind of just… stopped, with nothing to replace it.
Also told the province that 30 days to review major heritage legislation is not actually enough time. Shocking, I know.
Good people, important conversations, beautiful building. Worth the trip. 🏔️

Radio West picked up the Duty of Care resolution Nelson City Council passed earlier this year. Good conversation with Brady Strak about what the resolution actually calls for, why local government can start this conversation, and how the AKBLG and UBCM process works for people who aren’t deep in the weeds of local government advocacy.

Canadians are being harmed at an alarming rate on platforms designed for all ages. It’s time the leadership of these companies was held accountable for how their products are built to keep us addicted to our screens and vulnerable to harms from strangers around the world.

We certify appliances so they don’t burn down your house. We inspect food so it doesn’t poison you. We don’t have anything equivalent for the technology that’s running inside people’s heads all day. That needs to change.

Well, Newfoundland - we made it. 🌊
Diverted to Halifax at midnight due to weather, but the Air Canada crew were absolute legends.

Got us refuelled while conditions improved, and we pushed back again in the small hours of the morning, touching down in St. John’s under the cover of darkness while the city slept.

But waking up this morning to this gorgeous just view.

We are getting sorted and stocking up before what’s going to be a very full week. The Rock doesn’t wait - nor do we.

The last couple weeks have been full of darkness and pain - as with all things human from it springs the light of hope and reconciliation. Our communities creativity was in full display at this years poka dot festival. Hate was transformed into love and support in Creston during the solidarity protests against a right wing propagandist on tour targeting the local Indigenous and q***r community, and a candlelight vigil warmed our heavy hearts at lakeside to honour the murders in Tumbler Ridge.
