Streetcar 23 runs mid May to mid October seven days a week from 11 am to 5:00 pm. Young and old, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

Situated along the lakefront, in beautiful, Nelson, BC lies a historical marvel. Streetcar #23 is a fully functional streetcar that was once in use here in Nelson in the first half of the 20th century. Once the backup streetcar for the defunct Nelson Street Railway, it has had a colourful history. The Nelson Electric Tramway Society, along with The Chamber of Commerce, Royal Bank, and Selkirk Coll

ege restored this Streetcar, and the Society provides a scenic ride along Nelson’s waterfront. The society is all volunteer driven, and our streetcar is one of Nelson’s most interesting attractions. We invite you to come for a ride, and share in the wonderful history of the Queen’s City.

Streetcar #23 has been in Nelson for over 100 years! In 1924 the City of Nelson purchased the streetcar and we are celebrating the fact that in 2026 it is still here, running fine and delighting everyone who hops on board. So grateful for all the volunteers that make this possible!

Join Us!

We would love you to join us and become a Nelson Electric Tramway Volunteer. We have many different needs and opportunities and will train you on whatever task that interests you. If you have questions please feel free to contact us or drop on by the Trolley Barn Museum in Lakeside park Tuesdays and Thursdays and meet the crew. Trolley operation doesn’t start until May but there is lots to do right now!

Here’s more on our recently completed tie replacement project. A huge THANK YOU! to Mike from McNally Excavating for providing the dump truck loads of rock ballast for the new road bed and his John Deere articulating loader to landscape the new area.

A few of us from the shop took on a big project in October to replace 160 feet of rotten ties across from the carbarn. A big thank you to Jamie, Josh and Sandy from Osprey Excavating for providing the John Deere 35 and the dump truck for removing and disposing of the old ties. They were there for a day but the four volunteers from the shop put in just under 40 hours each to get the job done!
