During the reporting period, Nelson Police Department officers responded to a broad range of calls for service throughout the city. These included property-related offences, suspicious activity, traffic incidents, wellbeing checks, public assistance calls, and requests for support involving partner agencies.
Notable Calls for Service
• Vehicle theft investigations: Officers responded to three separate vehicle theft files on June 6.
• Theft investigations: Police investigated several theft reports at various locations throughout Nelson.
• Traffic-related calls: Officers attended multiple motor vehicle incidents and traffic enforcement files during the reporting period.
• Suspicious activity: Officers responded to several reports of suspicious persons and suspicious circumstances in various areas of the city.
• Wellbeing checks and public assistance: Members conducted multiple wellbeing checks and responded to a number of requests for assistance from the public.
• Abandoned 911 calls: Officers attended several abandoned 911 calls during the week.
• Additional notable files: Police also responded to investigations involving fraud, extortion, assault, arson, domestic incidents, property matters, and Mental Health Act-related calls.
Impaired Driving Enforcement
File 2026-2994
On June 1, 2026, an officer observed a vehicle being operated in a manner consistent with possible driver impairment. A traffic stop was conducted, and an Approved Screening Device demand was issued.
The driver, a 36-year-old female resident of Vancouver who possessed a Class 7 Novice driver’s licence, which one of the conditions is to have no alcohol in your system., provided a breath sample resulting in a reading of 32 mg%. The driver received a 12 hour driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded.

On May 31, 2026, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle operating without its lights illuminated during nighttime hours.
The driver, a 17-year-old male resident of Nelson, provided two breath samples into an Approved Screening Device, both resulting in a "FAIL" reading (The “FAIL” reading indicated that the driver’s blood alcohol level exceeded 100 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.). The driver received a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.( An Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) is an administrative sanction that allows police to immediately suspend a driver’s licence at the roadside when alcohol or drugs are detected, typically in situations where the impairment does not meet the threshold for criminal charges.)

On June 4, 2026, the Nelson Police Department, with assistance from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, executed a search warrant at a storage facility near Nelson, BC. During the search of several storage units, officers seized a rifle, multiple replica fi****ms, and over $20,000 worth of suspected stolen property, including e-bikes and tools. Police are actively working to identify and return the recovered items to their rightful owners. The investigation remains ongoing.
The Nelson Police Department reminds the public that reports of suspicious activity, property crime, and emergencies are taken seriously and encourages residents to contact police promptly when concerns arise. In the event of an accidental 911 call, callers are asked to remain on the line and advise the call taker so emergency resources can remain available for urgent situations.
