June 10, 2026 — The Nelson Police Department is advising the public that there will be an increased presence of Outlaw Motorcycle Gang (OMG) members from numerous clubs and chapters, in and around the community of Nelson and on area highways over the weekend of Friday June 12 until Sunday June 14, 2026. Police are expecting in excess of 50 OMG club members to be in the community over the weekend and will have high visibility throughout the area.

Police have been working with other law enforcement and intelligence agencies in the province to ensure a coordinated approach is taken and extra resources will be working over the weekend to ensure public safety and public order. Should anyone want to report suspicious or criminal activity, they should call the Nelson Police complaint line at (250) 354-3919 or for public safety concerns and crimes in progress, call 911.

Reporting Period: June 1 – June 6, 2026

During the reporting period, Nelson Police Department officers responded to a broad range of calls for service throughout the city. These included property-related offences, suspicious activity, traffic incidents, wellbeing checks, public assistance calls, and requests for support involving partner agencies.

Notable Calls for Service

• Vehicle theft investigations: Officers responded to three separate vehicle theft files on June 6.

• Theft investigations: Police investigated several theft reports at various locations throughout Nelson.

• Traffic-related calls: Officers attended multiple motor vehicle incidents and traffic enforcement files during the reporting period.

• Suspicious activity: Officers responded to several reports of suspicious persons and suspicious circumstances in various areas of the city.

• Wellbeing checks and public assistance: Members conducted multiple wellbeing checks and responded to a number of requests for assistance from the public.

• Abandoned 911 calls: Officers attended several abandoned 911 calls during the week.

• Additional notable files: Police also responded to investigations involving fraud, extortion, assault, arson, domestic incidents, property matters, and Mental Health Act-related calls.

Impaired Driving Enforcement

File 2026-2994

On June 1, 2026, an officer observed a vehicle being operated in a manner consistent with possible driver impairment. A traffic stop was conducted, and an Approved Screening Device demand was issued.
The driver, a 36-year-old female resident of Vancouver who possessed a Class 7 Novice driver’s licence, which one of the conditions is to have no alcohol in your system., provided a breath sample resulting in a reading of 32 mg%. The driver received a 12 hour driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded.

On May 31, 2026, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle operating without its lights illuminated during nighttime hours.
The driver, a 17-year-old male resident of Nelson, provided two breath samples into an Approved Screening Device, both resulting in a "FAIL" reading (The “FAIL” reading indicated that the driver’s blood alcohol level exceeded 100 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.). The driver received a 90-day Immediate Roadside Prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.( An Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP) is an administrative sanction that allows police to immediately suspend a driver’s licence at the roadside when alcohol or drugs are detected, typically in situations where the impairment does not meet the threshold for criminal charges.)

On June 4, 2026, the Nelson Police Department, with assistance from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, executed a search warrant at a storage facility near Nelson, BC. During the search of several storage units, officers seized a rifle, multiple replica fi****ms, and over $20,000 worth of suspected stolen property, including e-bikes and tools. Police are actively working to identify and return the recovered items to their rightful owners. The investigation remains ongoing.

The Nelson Police Department reminds the public that reports of suspicious activity, property crime, and emergencies are taken seriously and encourages residents to contact police promptly when concerns arise. In the event of an accidental 911 call, callers are asked to remain on the line and advise the call taker so emergency resources can remain available for urgent situations.

Three Drivers Receive Immediate Roadside Prohibitions in Nelson
The Nelson Police Department continues to conduct proactive impaired driving enforcement throughout the community.

Between May 29 and May 31, 2026, Nelson Police officers conducted three separate impaired driving investigations that resulted in Immediate Roadside Prohibitions (IRPs).

• A 17-year-old male Nelson resident was stopped in the 100 block of Vernon Street during the early morning hours of May 31 after officers observed a vehicle being operated without headlights. The driver provided two breath samples that resulted in "FAIL" readings on approved screening devices. The driver received a 90-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

• An 18-year-old female South Slocan resident was stopped on Hall Street during the early morning hours of May 30 after officers observed a traffic violation. The driver provided a breath sample that resulted in a "WARN" reading. The driver received a 3-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 3 days.

• A 71-year-old male Winlaw resident was stopped on Silica Street on May 29 following a complaint from a member of the public. The driver provided two breath samples that both resulted in "FAIL" readings. The driver received a 90-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded for 30 days.

The Nelson Police Department reminds motorists that impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of serious injury and fatal collisions in British Columbia. Officers will continue conducting roadside enforcement and screening throughout the year to help keep our roads safe.

Anyone who suspects an impaired driver is encouraged to call 911 if the behaviour presents an immediate danger or report the information to local police as soon as it is safe to do so.

Update to January 19, 2026 Media Release File NP2026-125

Health Canada laboratory analysis has confirmed that substances seized during a January 11, 2026 traffic stop in Nelson included co***ne, M**A, L*D, ketamine, and benzodiazepines.
The investigation involved a 29-year-old male resident of Slocan, BC, who was arrested following a traffic stop conducted as part of ongoing impaired driving enforcement. Officers subsequently seized significant quantities of controlled substances, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and more than $4,000 in Canadian currency.
As part of the investigation, the vehicle involved was seized under the Civil Forfeiture Office (CFO) process.
The investigation remains before the courts. Charges related to Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and impaired driving have been recommended.

Repeat Property Offender Facing Additional Charges

The Nelson Police Department has laid charges against Daniel DINUNZIO, a 36-year-old Nelson resident, following an investigation into a break and enter at the Kootenay Co-op.
On April 11, 2026, police received a report that an individual had unlawfully entered the business during the early morning hours and stolen merchandise. Surveillance footage captured the suspect gaining entry to the store before leaving with several items.
The suspect was identified as Daniel DINUNZIO by investigators and witnesses familiar with him through previous interactions.
At the time of the offence, DINUNZIO was subject to court-ordered conditions prohibiting him from attending several businesses in Nelson, including the Kootenay Co-op.

Police have laid charges of:
• Break and Enter

Additional charges related to breaches of court-ordered conditions remain under review.
DINUNZIO is currently in custody on unrelated matters. An unendorsed warrant has been issued in relation to these offences and will be executed while he remains in custody.
DINUNZIO is a designated Chronic Property Offender Intervention Initiative (CPOII) offender.

Between May 24 and May 30, 2026, the Nelson Police Department responded to 179 calls for service within the City of Nelson. Calls included proactive patrol activities, traffic enforcement, property crime investigations, public safety concerns, and requests for police assistance from members of the community.
