PLEASE HELP KEEP SPOILED FRUIT AND FOOD WASTE OUT OF REACH

The Rosebery and Kaslo Transfer Stations are seeing an increase in bear activity, drawn to spoiled fruit and vegetables in the Yard & Garden stockpiles. More recently, bears have been making their way into the bin areas, resulting in damaged fences, service delays, and early site closures.

Please keep Yard & Garden waste to hedge and grass clippings, weeds, shrubs, and tree branches only.

Spoiled produce can be tipped in Mixed Waste bins, or Organic Waste bins where offered (Ootischenia, Grohman Narrows, Salmo, and Creston facilities).

Let's keep everyone safe, sites open, and prevent bears from becoming habituated.

As the saying goes: "a fed bear is a dead bear".

Effective tomorrow, Friday August 28, at noon PDT the Off Road Vehicle (ORV) prohibition is rescinded in the Southeast, Cariboo, Coastal and Kamloops Fire Centres.

We recognize that ORVs play an important role in recreation, hunting and accessing the outdoors for many. Restrictions are only considered when multiple factors indicate an elevated wildfire risk, heightened wildfire activity and limited capacity to respond to new fire starts.

With improving conditions in some regions of B.C., and cooler wetter weather in the forecast we are now able to rescind these prohibitions. We continue to monitor wildfire risk and prohibitions may be implemented or rescinded as conditions change.

We appreciate the patience and cooperation shown by ORV users during this period. We know many riders take fire prevention seriously and recreate responsibly on established roads and trails. If you're returning to the backcountry, we ask for your support in reporting any new wildfires through our app or by calling *5555.

Wildfire season brings a lot of activity on social media and not everything shared is accurate, including AI-generated images that do not reflect real conditions on the ground. BC Wildfire Service recently flagged this trend, and it's worth a reminder here too.

The first trestle repair on the Nelson Salmo Great Northern Trail begins Monday. The trail will be closed between Ivy Road and Kapak Road from Monday, August 24 through Tuesday, September 8 while repairs are underway.

Good morning, please see photo for Great Northern Trail Closure starting August 24th.
The trail will be closed between Ivy Road and Kapak Rd entrances. Please obey signs and be aware of moving equipment in the area.
