Dear NSD 92 Community,

Nisga’a School District 92 is aware of a recent incident at one of our schools that has raised concerns in the community. I want to inform you that the matter is being addressed through our established district procedures. A letter has been emailed to families and caregives with additional details.

We kindly remind families and community members that social media is not an appropriate avenue for reporting school concerns. Sharing unverified information can cause harm, compromise investigations, and affect the rights of everyone involved.

NSD 92 has clear Administrative Procedures and Board Policies to ensure concerns are addressed respectfully, fairly, and through the proper channels. Following these processes helps protect student privacy, staff well‑being, and community trust.

If you have a concern, please contact the school principal or the district office directly. We are committed to working together to maintain safe, caring, and respectful learning environments for all learners and staff.

Due to unfavorable weather, the district administration has cancelled the Gingolx Bus service scheduled for today.

Update 2:

Based on power being restored, residual heat in the schools, SD 92 confirms the schools will be open at 12:30pm, with a 1pm start.

For Laxgalts’ap and Gitwinksihlkw high school students there will be an opportunity to catch a bus to attend afternoon session. Laxgalts’ap will depart at 12 noon and Gitwinksihlkw at 12:15pm.

Due to timing of power restoration the district is not able to send a bus for Gingolx high school students at this time.

Update 1:

BC hydro posted crews will be on site by 8:30am.

The district has made the decision to close SD 92 schools for the morning. Will re-assess at 11am.

Initial post:

Due to the on going power outage, uncertainty of when it can be restored, both Gingolx and Laxgalts’ap bus runs have been cancelled.

It is still unclear if the power outage will affect the opening of SD 92 schools. A decision will be made by 8am.

We thank you for your patience. The district is monitoring the situation and will provide an update as soon as we can.

Today has been declared a provincial Day of Mourning to honour the victims in Tumbler Ridge. Our hearts are with the students, families, staff, and the entire Peace River South community as they navigate this unimaginable tragedy.

In NSD92, we are approaching today through a trauma-informed lens and will not be holding in-school observances. Many may be processing these events in different ways, and our priority is to ensure calm, caring spaces and to support anyone who needs it.

We invite our school communities to take time in ways that feel right for you and your families. Thank you to our staff for the compassion and care you continue to show during this difficult time.

Day of Mourning Communication

Many in our communities may be feeling the impact of the tragic event that occurred in Tumbler Ridge, BC yesterday. Our thoughts are with the community of Tumbler Ridge during this incredibly difficult time. We stand with our northern neighbours as they navigate the tragic events that have impacted so many. As a district, we offer our heartfelt support to all individuals, families, first responders and community members affected by this tragedy. May they find strength, care and unity in the days ahead.

We know that news like this can be upsetting for children, youth, and families, and we want to ensure that everyone has access to accurate information and supportive resources.

The Nisga’a School District has prepared a letter for families, caregivers and community members that provides guidance on how to support children and youth during this time, along with a list of local and provincial mental health resources.

Due to the current road conditions the bus for the Gingolx route has been cancelled for the day.

Friday, December 19, 2025. Due to unforeseen health issues affecting bus driver capacity, the district has made the following operational adjustments.

One bus will service stops in Gingolx, Laxgalts'ap, and Gitwinksihlkw, resulting in two main changes.

Firstly, Laxgalts'ap and Gitwinksihlkw departure times will be adjusted, while Gingolx departure times remain unchanged.

Secondly, students on the bus will attend a half-day session, departing from NESS at 11:30am today. NESS usual lunch time.

The district apologizes for any inconvenience caused by these changes.

Due the current road conditions at time posting. For the section of highway 113 between Gingolx and Laxgalts’ap. There won’t be a bus run for the Gingolx route.
