Thanks to your continued support through the NSFF 50/50, we have purchased two MSA G1 SCBAs, complete with spare cylinders. This purchase completes our department’s transition from the previously used MSA FireHawk units to the MSA G1 system, a process that has taken place over the past several years.

In cooperation with the Town of New Glasgow, which has also purchased 2 SCBAs, this upgrade ensures that all of our breathing apparatus units are interchangeable. This standardization is particularly important as MSA has transitioned from 2216 PSI cylinders to 4500 PSI cylinders.

We sincerely appreciate your continued support, which helps us maintain modern, reliable equipment and ensure the safety of our firefighters and the community we serve.

Fire Prevention Week Tip!!
Unfortunately grease fires happen. Knowing what to do if it does is crucial. If it’s contained to the pan or pot slide a metal lid or baking sheet over it and turn off burner. Large amounts of baking Soda can smother a grease fire as well. Do not use baking powder or flour. NEVER put water on a grease fire. If the fire is any more than the above then get out and call 911. Household fire extinguishers (ABC type) are not recommended as the high pressure may splash the ignited grease and spreading flames however can be used elsewhere.

Fire Prevention Week Tip!
Does your family have a fire escape plan?
Sitting down with your family and drawing out an escape plan can avoid an already chaotic situation from getting worse. By having a dedicated meeting place, for example the telephone pole out front, the swing set in the back yard or your neighbors front doorstep, can avoid a disaster. Incidents of people going back in looking for a loved one when they weren’t even inside happen way too often. GET OUT AND STAY OUT!!!!

Fire Prevention Week Tip!
Do you sleep with your bedroom door open or closed? In the event of a fire, having your door closed will buy you valuable time. Ceiling temperatures in a house fire can reach over 800 degrees Celsius and your door can reduce that drastically giving firefighters time to reach you and or time to escape.
