We’ve been looking forward to this Cold Storage workshop for a while! Still on the fence? No worries—there are plenty of spots left. We can host up to 15 participants, and we’re currently at 6 registered. Come join us!

Here is the program:
5:00 pm Welcome, Introductions and pre-workshop survey.
5:30 pm Cold Storage 101 - temperature, humidity, airflow, crop-specific needs, and different types of cold storage options. Community Scale systems - sizing, costs, regulatory basics and operational models.
6:15 pm Tour of two working systems: Above Ground using technology (air conditioner and InkBird) and Below Ground - Root Cellar. The tours are located uphill about 0.5 km from our meeting space. If you are unable to walk, we can offer a ride in a car.
7:15 pm(ish) - Light Dinner Break - we will have local lamb sausages or veggie burgers and buns, salad, tea, water, and a sweet treat.
8:00 pm - Closing - Post-Workshop survey, Door prize for completing both surveys and invitation to explore starting a community cold storage project where you live.
8:30 Good night and safe travels!

Please send us an email and we will send directions to Ferme Nord-Lys Farm on Telkwa High Road.

Closing the loop at Minerals North 2026.

Thanks to the commitment of attendees, vendors, and organizers, this year’s conference made meaningful progress toward reducing waste and supporting a more circular event model.

Over two days, the composting program led by MASH collected:

• 53.3 kg of compostable containers, plates, and cutlery
• 31.9 kg of food scraps
• 85.2 kg total compostable material diverted from landfill
• Only 5.6 kg of contamination — a strong result for an event of this size
• 0.19 kg of organics diverted person (450 including staff)

Contamination was minimal on Thursday, with only a few common items like coffee cup lids and butter packets. Friday’s higher contamination (5.6 kg) highlighted the usual culprits: foil, plastic wrap, laminated paper, business cards, tea wrappers, and even the occasional pen or cooking utensil. These insights help us refine signage and education for future events.
Every conference leaves a footprint — this year, we made ours a little lighter.
Here’s to continuing the momentum and raising the bar for sustainable events across the North.
