It is with profound sadness that the District of New Hazelton Fire Department acknowledges the tragic loss of a fellow firefighter and his coworker following a recent motor vehicle accident.
A loss like this reaches far beyond the department. It is felt by the firefighters who respond to calls together, by the emergency personnel who work alongside with one another, and by the communities that rely on these individuals when help is needed most.
Being a firefighter means becoming part of something larger than yourself. It means showing up when the call comes in, often in difficult circumstances, and knowing that the person beside you is there for the same reason, to help others. The friendships and connections formed run deep, which makes a loss such as this particularly difficult for those who serve.
Our thoughts are with Billy’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time. We also extend our condolences to his fellow firefighters, the emergency responders who attended the incident, and everyone in our local communities who is grieving his passing.
We would like to recognize Tony and the impact this tragedy has on his family. We know they are also facing an incredibly difficult and uncertain time. We extend our heartfelt thoughts and support to them as they navigate the days ahead.
There are no words that can adequately express the weight of a loss like this. We hope that, in time, the memories of the good times, the moments shared, and the lives touched will bring some measure of comfort to those who knew them.
