A man arrested by Metro Vancouver Transit Police on eight Canada-wide arrest warrants out of Saskatchewan remains in custody to face charges.

On Thursday, August 27, 2026, shortly after 8:00 p.m., officers from the Transit Police Targeted Mobile Enforcement Team were conducting impaired driving enforcement in the area around Surrey Central Station when they encountered a driver with eight active Canada-wide arrest warrants. Emmanuel Enocent Dario, a 36-year-old man from Surrey, was taken into custody on the following outstanding warrants out of Estevan, Saskatchewan:

- Two counts of Possession for the purposes of trafficking a controlled substance;
- Two counts of Fail to comply with release order;
- Two counts of Fail to attend court;
- One count of Possession of property obtained by crime;
- One count of Obstruct a Peace Officer;

Mr. Dario is currently held in-custody pending his next court appearance.

Transit Police officers and volunteers carry Naloxone. In the first six months of 2026, they have saved 108 individuals from overdose. That’s up dramatically from the 128 lives saved in all of 2025.

If you see someone during your transit journey who may be experiencing an overdose, call Transit Police at 604.515.8300 or text us at 87.77.77. If you suspect that the person isn’t breathing or is otherwise in the midst of a medical emergency, call 911 right away.

A 31-year-old man remains in custody after an arrest in Surrey by Metro Vancouver Transit Police led to the discovery of a loaded firearm.

On Thursday, August 13, 2026, just after 5:00 p.m., members of the Transit Police Crime Suppression Team were on patrol in the area around Surrey Central Station. The officers conducted a traffic stop stemming from a Motor Vehicle Act Violation. An individual inside the vehicle was taken into custody, which led to the discovery of outstanding warrants and a breach of release order conditions stemming from a previous arrest. While the individual was being arrested, a loaded 9mm handgun and ammunition were discovered in his possession.

Patrick Sama Azoadam, a Vancouver resident, has been charged with 7 counts of firearm-related offenses, breach of release order, and obstructing a peace officer. He remains in custody awaiting a bail hearing. His next court appearance is on August 24, 2026.

“A loaded firearm in close proximity to one of the busiest transit hubs in Metro Vancouver puts public safety at risk. Routine patrols and enforcement of seemingly innocuous offenses can often play a critical role in preventing incidents that threaten public safety. By taking a proactive approach to policing, Transit Police officers successfully removed a dangerous weapon from the community and worked to hold the responsible individual accountable.” – Constable Sunny Kainth

Transit Police’s Constable Mike Bjornson has joined the fight against childhood cancer. This September, he will join other local first responders for the 8-day, 800 km Cops for Cancer - Tour de Coast bike ride that raises money for childhood cancer research and support services at the Canadian Cancer Society.

Prior to joining Transit Police in 2013, Mike worked as a carpenter for 8 years before deciding to join the “family business” of law enforcement. His father, Bjorn, worked with VPD for 30 years and Transit Police for 14 years; his brother, John, has served with VPD for almost 20 years. Mike continues to practice carpentry and other trades while completing projects at home for his family. This is Mike’s first time representing Transit Police in the Cops for Cancer: Tour de Coast journey.

“This ride means a lot to me personally,” says Mike. “Like many families, ours has felt the devastating impact of cancer. I’m riding in memory of my uncle, who passed away from cancer in 2021. Being a part of this event is my way of turning that experience into something positive and helping children who are facing cancer far too early in life.”

Further fueling Mike’s determination to meet his ambitious $10,000 fundraising goal is his steadfast support of Transit Police Constable Ray Athway. Mike and Ray were partners, working in C Squad’s West Division together before Ray’s diagnosis.

“Ray has become a true friend who always has my back, and it goes without saying that I’m in this battle with him until he is back on the road,” says Mike.

The Cops for Cancer: Tour de Coast will take place September 11 to 18, 2026. All money raised will go toward supporting local families affected by childhood cancer. Funds are directed to life-saving paediatric research and caring support programs like Camp Goodtimes.
