🛒 Make a Difference for Seniors—Volunteer with Our Grocery Order Program!

Many seniors face barriers to grocery shopping due to mobility challenges, health concerns, or a lack of family and social supports. As a Grocery Order Taker volunteer, you can help ensure older adults have access to the food and essentials they need to continue living safely and independently at home.

We're looking for volunteers who are:
✅ Friendly, outgoing, and patient
✅ Courteous with strong interpersonal skills
✅ Detail-oriented and organized
✅ Able to work independently

Today, on National Seniors Day, we're grateful to Coast Capital their generous $13,000 donation in support of our Rapid Access Unit in New Westminster.
For seniors facing homelessness, having access to a private, secure space, nutritious meals, and dedicated housing support can be a lifeline. Through the Rapid Access Unit, older adults can move out of crisis and into safety while longer-term housing solutions are secured.
Thank you, Coast Capital, for helping ensure that vulnerable seniors have somewhere safe to turn when they need it most.

Today, we pause to honour the strength, resilience, and truths of Indigenous Peoples across Turtle Island. This day calls us to reflect not only on the painful legacy of residential schools, but also on the lasting impacts of colonialism that continue to affect communities — especially through displacement, disconnection, and homelessness.

Many Indigenous people describe homelessness not simply as a lack of housing, but as a deeper loss — a disconnection from land, culture, family, and community.

In our work with seniors who are homeless or at risk, we witness how vital those connections are. Home is more than shelter — it’s belonging, history, identity, and care.

On this day of reflection and action, we commit to listening, learning, and supporting efforts that restore and strengthen these connections.

For many seniors, losing long-term housing means losing stability, security, familiar routines, and connections to their community. Suddenly facing eviction can be overwhelming, leaving seniors anxious about where they'll sleep, how they'll access services, and what comes next.

At Seniors Services Society of BC (SSSBC), we understand how quickly a housing crisis can change someone's life. Our team works alongside seniors to navigate housing challenges, connect them with support services, and find safe, stable housing solutions. No senior should have to face homelessness alone.
