On International Day of Charity, we’re reminded that meaningful support can change lives and create lasting pathways out of homelessness. 💙

Charity-backed "Housing First" and direct-support initiatives demonstrate an 88% success rate in securing permanent housing for people experiencing chronic homelessness, while costing 17% less than traditional emergency services.

At Blue Door, we believe everyone deserves a safe place to call home and the support needed to build a brighter future. Together, through compassion, community and action, we can help create lasting change.

🏠 1,000 affordable homes by 2036. That’s the goal.

Housing For All is a bold, community-driven response to the housing crisis in York Region.

In 2025, we brought together funders, developers, service partners, and housing and homelessness experts to help shape the initiative and set an ambitious goal: acquiring, building, and preserving 1,000 affordable homes across York Region over the next 10 years.

Because ending homelessness takes more than emergency support. It takes creating more affordable, permanent homes where people can build stable futures. 💙

In 2025, Blue Door’s emergency housing programs provided 82,211 nights of safety to people experiencing homelessness. 🏠💙

But emergency housing is about more than a place to sleep. It is about creating a safe and supportive space where people can begin rebuilding their lives. 🤝

Through year-round emergency housing, Blue Door provides access to mental health services, housing support, healthcare, employment resources, and other wraparound supports that help individuals move toward greater stability. 🌱

Every night of safety is an opportunity for hope, connection, and a path forward. 💙

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day.

International Overdose Awareness Day is an opportunity to remember those who have lost their lives to overdose, support those affected by substance use and overdose, and raise awareness about the importance of prevention, harm reduction, and access to support.

In Toronto, 54% of deaths among people experiencing homelessness were linked to drug toxicity. This statistic highlights the disproportionate impact of the toxic drug supply on people experiencing homelessness and the importance of accessible, compassionate supports.

At Blue Door, we recognize that addressing homelessness means addressing the many barriers and challenges people may face. Today, we remember those we have lost and reaffirm the importance of compassion, dignity, and support for everyone in our community. 💜

🏠 24,854 nights of safety
🤝 701 people supported

Myth vs. Fact 👀

❌ Myth: Most people who are homeless are unemployed.

✅ Fact: Many people experiencing homelessness are working but still struggle to afford housing 🏠. Low wages, rising rent, limited benefits, and unstable work hours can make it difficult to keep a safe and secure home.

Homelessness doesn’t always look the way we expect. Understanding the realities helps us build stronger communities for everyone. 💙
