🚨 Alert Ready Test Happening Today

Today, Canada’s Alert Ready emergency alerting system will be tested in several provinces and territories.

Alert Ready is Canada’s national emergency alert system. It is used to deliver critical, potentially life-saving alerts through television, radio, and compatible LTE-connected wireless devices during emergencies such as severe weather, civil emergencies, AMBER Alerts, and other urgent public safety situations.

These tests help confirm that the system is working properly and that emergency alerts can reach Canadians quickly when seconds matter.

According to Alert Ready, tests are scheduled today in:

• Alberta
• British Columbia
• Manitoba
• New Brunswick
• Newfoundland and Labrador
• Northwest Territories
• Nova Scotia
• Nunavut
• Prince Edward Island
• Yukon

Please note: Ontario’s test is scheduled for Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 1:55 PM EDT. Quebec currently has no test scheduled, and Saskatchewan’s test has been cancelled.

This is only a test. If you receive the alert, no action is required. Please do not call 911 for information about the test, as this could delay emergency assistance for those who truly need it.

Staying informed and prepared is an important part of community safety.

What a day at Merrittville Speedway! Our first deployment of 2026 — and our first time working with the Speedway — is in the books, and the Easter Eggstravaganza was a huge success.

Thank you to the Merrittville staff and volunteers for trusting the Canadian Response Network with event safety and communications. And an extra‑big shoutout to Preston Roberts (VA3SFP), Mike Brault (VE3VMB), Jeremy, Johanne, and Crystal for going above and beyond today.

Despite the cold and rain, our team showed up strong. With roughly 6,000 guests attending, your hard work helped keep everyone safe and supported.

Proud of this team and excited for what’s ahead in 2026.

As the Canadian Response Network continues to grow, we’re always looking for ways to improve the reliability and quality of the communications we provide at community events across Ontario.

This year, we’re making a small but meaningful update to our radio fleet. Some of our older handheld units are being phased out of primary service so we can focus on newer models that offer clearer audio, stronger security, and more advanced safety features. These upgrades help ensure our team can communicate quickly, accurately, and effectively during every deployment.

Our clients and community partners can expect the same dependable service we’re known for — now with even better tools behind the scenes. This change supports our commitment to professionalism, safety, and continuous improvement as we move into our fourth year of operations.

Thank you for your ongoing trust and support. We’re excited for what’s ahead.

The Canadian Response Network extends its sincere condolences following the tragic incident at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, where an Air Canada Express aircraft arriving from Montreal collided with a Port Authority fire truck on an active runway. This event resulted in the loss of two pilots and caused injuries to passengers, crew members, and first responders.

Authorities, including the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB), have initiated a joint investigation to determine the circumstances that led to both the aircraft and the emergency vehicle occupying the same runway. Early information indicates that an air traffic controller attempted to halt the fire truck moments before the collision.

Although the Canadian Response Network was not involved in this incident, we recognize the profound impact it has had on the aviation community, emergency service professionals, and the families and colleagues of those affected. We offer our deepest sympathies to all who are grieving and to those recovering from this tragic event.

Our thoughts remain with everyone impacted during this difficult time. 💭🙏

Happy St. Patrick’s Day from Canadian Response Network!

Today we celebrate community, resilience, and the spirit of togetherness that keeps us moving forward. Enjoy the day with friends and family — and please celebrate responsibly: plan a sober ride, designate a driver, or use public transit or a ride-share. Never drink and drive.

Wishing everyone a safe and joyful St. Patrick’s Day. Sláinte!

Environment and Climate Change Canada will permanently disconnect the national Weatheradio VHF network and the Hello Weather telephone service on March 16, 2026. The Weatheradio network has operated since 1976 and has been cited as reaching roughly 90% of the Canadian population; it provided continuous automated forecasts and S.A.M.E. alerts on VHF that many mariners, backcountry users, and remote communities relied on as a battery‑powered emergency lifeline.

🚨📢 Heads up! FEMA and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will conduct a nationwide test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS) and Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) this fall. The national test will consist of two portions, testing WEA and EAS capabilities. Both tests are scheduled to begin at approximately 2:20 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Oct. 4.

The WEA portion of the test will be directed to all consumer cell phones. This will be the third nationwide test, but the second test to all cellular devices. The test message will display in either English or in Spanish, depending on the language settings of the wireless handset.

The EAS portion of the test will be sent to radios and televisions. This will be the seventh nationwide EAS test.

FEMA and the FCC are coordinating with EAS participants, wireless providers, emergency managers and other stakeholders in preparation for this national test to minimize confusion and to maximize the public safety value of the test.

The purpose of the Oct. 4 test is to ensure that the systems continue to be effective means of warning the public about emergencies, particularly those on the national level. In case the Oct. 4 test is postponed due to widespread severe weather or other significant events, the back-up testing date is Oct. 11.

Stay safe and stay informed! 🙏
