Consent is not as simple as getting a ‘yes’. For someone to consent, that ‘yes’ must be freely given, reversible at anytime, informed, enthusiastic, specific, and affirmative.

So let’s be clear. A ‘yes’ that is obtained without these six factors at play.. is a no.

Today, we’d like to remind you that su***de prevention is also everything that helps someone feel safe enough, supported enough, and connected enough to survive.

For people who have experienced violence, abuse, sudden loss, or other forms of victimization, the aftermath can bring more than emotional trauma. It can mean unsafe housing, financial instability, navigating the justice system, disrupted relationships, barriers to healthcare, isolation, and a profound loss of safety and control.

That’s why we believe that su***de prevention isn’t only about what we do when someone reaches a crisis point.

It’s also about what we do before they get there.

August 30 is 🫂

Our staff have the honour of being allowed into the darkest and most vulnerable moments of people’s lives, including the very moment that they learn their loved one has died. We are truly honoured to sit with people in these moments and support them moving forward, throughout the initial stages of their bereavement.

Today, we are thinking of those who have found the strength to allow us to support them through the loss of their child, infant, spouse, parent, friend, or loved one.

Special thanks to our friends at Niagara Regional Police Service and Niagara Falls Fire Department - Canada once again, for stepping up to the plate in support of the work we do.
