In June, we recognize Pride and Indigenous History Month at the library to honour the history and resilience of our 2SLGBTQIA+ and Indigenous community members. πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆπŸ³οΈβ€βš§οΈπŸ§‘

The first Pride Week events in Canada took place in August in several cities from 1973 through the 1990s, before transitioning to a month-long celebration.

National Indigenous Peoples Day is celebrated on June 21st, intentionally chosen to align with the summer solstice. For generations, many First Nations, Inuit, and MΓ©tis communities have marked the solstice as a sacred time of renewal, celebration, and connection.

Our displays will be available throughout the month of June, so be sure to stop by the library and grab one of our featured reads and explore a new perspective. πŸ“–
