Yesterday, August 31, we came together to recognize International Overdose Awareness Day.
It was a meaningful opportunity to remember those we have lost, honour their lives, and support those who have struggled or continue to struggle with substance use.

Overdose does not discriminate - it can affect anyone.

Through shared stories, drumming, music, and powerful reflections from people with lived experiences, we were reminded of both the pain and the strength that exist within our communities, and how hope can serve as a beacon of light, illuminating a path toward healing and connection.

Most importantly, we came together to remind one another that no one is alone. There will always be people willing to help, support, and care. Awareness of lifesaving measures, including the protections offered through the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act, can make a difference when it matters most.

Thank you to everyone who attended. Your presence, compassion, and willingness to stand together bring hope, healing, and connection to those who need it most. 💜

Today is International Overdose Awareness Day.

Today, we remember the people whose lives have been lost to overdose and drug poisoning, and hold close the families, friends and communities who carry those losses with them.

We also stand with people in recovery, frontline workers, and everyone working to reduce harm and keep people safe.

Overdose does not discriminate. Behind every loss is a person — someone loved, someone remembered, someone whose life mattered.

Community members are invited to gather today at Leger Square at North Bay City Hall from 4–7 p.m. for North Bay’s International Overdose Awareness Day event. The gathering will include traditional drumming, guest speakers with lived experience, community resources, Naloxone training, live music, food and more.

💜 Time to remember. Time to act.
Every life matters.

Join us tonight!

Public libraries do more than provide access to books. They create safe, welcoming spaces where people can connect, learn, and feel a sense of belonging. In small and rural communities especially, libraries are often important gathering places for children, youth, and families.

With the recent passing of Dolly Parton, we are reminded of the amazing work she did promoting childhood literacy, emphasizing the importance of reading with children to build a strong foundation for resilience. Positive back-and-forth interactions between children and their caregivers helps build their brains!

Thank you to Callander Public Library for hosting a presentation to deepen staff understanding about resilience and early adversity, and for all you do to support your community!
