NUFA members Jonathan Pitt and Nicole Abotossaway were in the classroom today sharing the first lessons in the Indigenous Education Programs which run on campus during the month of July. Arriving students were also able to connect with professors Amy Dickerson and Emily Sprowls who came out to welcome them at the orientation. We’re proud of the passion our faculty bring to their work!

Huge congratulations to NUFA President and History professor Robin Gendron on the publication of his new book with McGill-Queen’s University Press McGill-Queen’s UP

INCO in Paradise: The International Nickel Company in New Caledonia, 1959-1990 delves into the entangled forces of colonial power, global capital, and local resistance that arose when Canadian mining giant INCO sought to establish operations in the French-controlled archipelago of New Caledonia, sparking conflict between the territory’s nascent nationalist movement on the one hand and the French government and its partisans on the other.

Many thanks to all the NUFA faculty members who attended this week’s Annual General Meeting, a very collegial and informative gathering held on Wednesday in the wake of Arsenal’s historic win as 2025-26 Premier League Champions! (a victory no doubt thanks in part to the stalwart support of not-one-but-two NUFA Presidents Robin and Natalya!).

Special thanks to our guest attendee, CAUT Vice-President Marc Schroeder, for sharing insights on the key challenges we face in the postsecondary sector, and reminding us of the strengths to be found in teamwork and solidarity.

Members gathered after the meeting to swap summer plans and share a unifying pint or two in the name of team spirit. To all full-time and part-time faculty and librarians at Nipissing U, have a wonderful summer!

PS - And shout-out also to the Nipissing U campus groundhogs who were in fine fettle this week!

Huge congratulations to faculty member Tyson Stewart on publishing his debut novel! The Return of the Nish from draws on both Anishinaabe storytelling and film noir influences, exploring the tragedy of lost opportunities, the cyclical nature of time, and how people and places return to us in new lights.

Tyson is a Nipissing U faculty member in Indigenous Studies and he serves as NUFA’s Indigenous Faculty Representative. Congratulations !
