At 14:46 North Sydney Fire & Rescue were alerted to a 'back step on fire'. Engine 7 was returning from a mutual aid call...

At 14:46 North Sydney Fire & Rescue were alerted to a 'back step on fire'. Engine 7 was returning from a mutual aid call assisting a neighboring department and was on scene immediately. Engine 5 and engine 7, Ladder 2, brush 6 rescue 3, regional tactical 2, mutual aid engine 1 from Sydney Mines and Engine 32 from Florence all responded to a 'confirmed working structure fire, fully involved'. Crews had their hands full with a number of exposures and spot grass fires. Firefighters searched all three floors for a number of reported victims. All searching proved negative - with one exception- a service animal was located on the third floor. Firefighters attended to the puppy from the outside, coaxing him to stay put, while firefighters made a push on the third floor. He was removed safely, transported to the Animal Medical Center, checked over and returned to a very heart warming reunion with his owner. thanks to Doug Ivey for the aerial shots.
