⚽🔥 What a Day at Our Kick‑Off Cook‑Out! 🔥⚽

What a way to welcome the summer. ☀️ Our plaza was full of life, with kids of all ages running, playing, and laughing, families connecting, and neighbours coming together for an afternoon of pure community joy.

In partnership with North Vancouver Recreation & Culture and North Vancouver District Public Library, we shared some of the many programs and services available right here on the North Shore. A big thank you as well to Loblaws City Market Park Royal and Choices Market for their continued support and generous in‑kind donations across our programs, from Kids in the Kitchen to yesterday’s event.

🌭 Because yes… we ran out of
⚽ And yes… our challenge went up fast too

From soccer balls to our World Cup raffle, the energy didn’t slow down for a second. And more than anything, this day was a reminder of what makes our community so special. When we come together, something simple like a game of soccer can turn into something much bigger.

💚 If you enjoyed this, you're going to love what's coming next.
🎶 Our "Party on the Plaza" returns on August 7th!
👉 Save the date! We want to see you there.

Last year, more than 550 people joined us for a vibrant afternoon of connection, food, and live music, and this year, we are bringing it back in an even bigger way: more activities, more music, more giveaways, and even more reasons to come together.

🤝 Aiming for Greater Inter‑Agency Collaboration Across the North Shore 🤝

This week, Capilano Community Services welcomed a gathering of North Shore nonprofit organizations to our space at Lions Gate Community Recreation Centre, bringing together leaders, staff, and board members to connect, exchange ideas, and explore opportunities for collaboration.

The session was led by Mark Friesen, Executive Director of Hollyburn Community Services Society, and thoughtfully facilitated by Charles Holmes, whose work in creating meaningful and uplifting gatherings helped shape a truly engaging and productive morning. We are grateful to have welcomed representatives from across the sector, including:

• MONOVA
• Parkgate Society
• Squamish Nation
• Kiwanis West Vancouver
• West Vancouver Foundation
• North Shore Women’s Centre
• North Shore Keepwell Society
• Lookout Housing & Health Society
• North Shore Neighbourhood House
• North Shore Crisis Services Society
• Lionsview Seniors Planning Society
• Spectrum Mothers Support Society
• North Shore Community Resources
• North Shore Community Foundation
• Silver Harbour Seniors Activity Centre
• Hollyburn Community Services Society

💚 A special thank you to Charles Holmes for facilitating, and to Mark Friesen for bringing this important gathering together, along with all participants who contributed their time, perspective, and experience to the conversation.

When we share knowledge, support one another, and look beyond competition, we build a stronger foundation for the entire community. Because the more we share, the more we have.

✨ Out in the Community This Week ✨

Over the past week, Capilano Community Services has been proud to take part in two meaningful community events across the North Shore.

We were invited by the (North Shore Community Foundation) to join the golf tournament at (Seymour Golf & Country Club), where we had the opportunity to connect with community members and share our programs on site.

A few days later, we attended a special ceremony in West Vancouver, where John Peirson was recognized with the Community Commitment Award. It was an honour to celebrate his dedication and lifelong contributions to our community. Moments like these remind us how important it is to stay connected, visible, and engaged, working alongside partners and community leaders to support those who need it most.

💚 You can help make this work possible:
• Every contribution supports programs for children, youth, and seniors
• Even a $20 donation can make a meaningful difference
• Tax receipts are provided for all contributions

🌿 7 Resources for Seniors at Cap Services 🌿

This Seniors’ Week, we are highlighting a range of programs and services designed to support older adults across the North Shore. Our goal is to create spaces where seniors feel supported, connected, and at home in the community.

💚 Here are 7 resources available to seniors:

• Monthly Senior Socials with live music, tea, and light refreshments
• A free grocery bus service running Monday to Wednesday, with door‑to‑door support
• The My Lions Gate BREAK Dementia Day Program offering respite care twice a week
• The Red Cross’ Health Equipment Loan Program (or HELP) provides essential medical equipment at no cost.
• A free weekly Community Breakfast, welcoming up to 30 seniors each Friday
• Monthly outings and community trips, offered in both English and Farsi
• A welcoming Persian Community Circle, gathering weekly for connection and activities
These programs are designed to meet a wide range of needs, from practical support and mobility to social connection and community belonging.

📊 Last year, our services were accessed over 10,000 times by seniors across the North Shore, reflecting the importance of these programs in everyday life.

🌿 A Wonderful Day at the Ageless Seniors Expo 🌿

Last weekend, our Seniors team had the pleasure of attending the 8th Annual Ageless Seniors Expo at Silver Harbour, connecting with community members and sharing information about the programs and services we offer for older adults on the North Shore.

Throughout the day, we spoke with seniors, caregivers, and families about ways to stay active, connected, and supported. From social and wellness programs to meals and resources that help support independence, it was great to see so much interest and meaningful conversation at our booth.

A heartfelt thank you to for hosting this event, and to all the partners and sponsors who helped make the day such a success. And a special shoutout to Austin and Riba, who held down the booth and spent the day connecting with community members.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, picked up a brochure, signed up for our newsletter, or simply took the time to talk with our team. Days like this remind us how important it is to create spaces where information, support, and community come together. 💚
