103 Thunderbird Squadron Royal Canadian Air Cadets

103 Thunderbird Squadron Royal Canadian Air Cadets 103 Thunderbird Squadron is a youth organization open to both male and female youth from 12 to 18 years of age.

We offer opportunities that youth would not be able to typically experience in other programs. For example, as an air cadet you are eligible to receive scholarships to become a glider pilot and even receive your private pilots licence. One of the premier aspects of the cadet program is the experience you are able to gain in leadership, time management, self discipline, professionalism, management

and organizational skills. You also have the opportunity upon completion of certain portions of the air cadet program to earn high school credits that can be applied to for graduation. Some of the additional activities that 103 Squadron offers is a precision drill team, flight simulator training, advanced bush survival skills, public speaking, first aid training, and musical training in a marching band.

CTC Spotlight! This summer, over 13 course cadets and 2 staff cadets from 103 Thunderbird had the special opportunity to attend summer training at Vernon or Quadra CTC. Our cadets attended a range of courses from Survival, Drill, Marksmanship, Military Band, and Aviation. Congratulations to all cadets for completing their courses and attending summer training!

AIRCREW SURVIVAL - one of the most unique parts of the Air Cadet Program is Aircrew Survival. 2026 Summer of CTC has officially started. WO1 Atchison and WO2 Burr are staffing this summer in Vernon. WO1 Atchison is instructing Drill and Ceremonial Instructor Course, and WO2 Burr is instructing Introduction to Survival Course.

Year in Review!
103 Thunderbird had a training year full of activites, such as: touring the ARC Gloria, visiting Grouse Mountain, kayaking in Deep Cove, annual Mess Dinner and awards night, the NCO Training Course, hiking on Bowen Island, snowshoeing on Cypress Mountain, multiple FTX’s in Chilliwack, Gliding and Power Familiarization flying, various weekly teams, and competitions for range, drill, and band. 103 also participated in the North Vancouver Rememberance Day ceremony, as well as monthly Commanding Officer Parades, Annual Ceremonial Review, and more. Thank you to everyone who made this training year possible!

On June 3rd, 2026, 103 Thunderbird Squadron had its 78th Annual Ceremonial Review. ACR is a year-end parade where cadets get to showcase all of the hard work that they’ve put into their drill, dress, teams, and leadership throughout the year. There were dynamic displays performed by the band and the Drill Team, as well as static displays from both as well as Effective Speaking, Range, Wilderness Leadership Team and Flag Party. 103 also had a Change of Command, as well as a few major awards given out. Thank you to the squadron staff, the reviewing officer, the SSC, volunteers, and the cadets for an excellent end to the training year!

Last Wednesday, 103 Thunderbird combined it’s Year-End Awards Night and annual Mess Dinner into a night of promotions, awards, and mess dinner traditions. The cadets were recognized for their dedication to the squadron and the cadet program through many promotions to Corporal, Flight Corporal, Sergeant, Flight Sergeant, and Warrant Officer 2nd Class. Select cadets also received awards, ranging from Top Cadet of their respective level through the training year, to shiniest boots, top instructor and more. Congratulations to all cadets who were promoted and who received awards! Thank you to everyone who made this night a success!
