District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue

District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue This is the official District of North Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services page. The DNVFRS is the largest of 3 fire departments on North Shore.

We are here to make North Vancouver a safer community. District of North Vancouver Fire Department serves the District’s 82,500 residents within approximately 160 square kilometers of urban and wild-land territory. The Department employs 120 suppression staff organized over four platoons in five strategically located fire stations in the Lynn Valley, Lynnmour, Montroyal, Norgate, and Seymour areas

. The North Vancouver Fire Department also employs seven Command Officers, one Training Officer, seven Fire Prevention Education Personnel, two Mechanical Staff, and three Administrative Assistants. The only training and fire apparatus mechanical maintenance facility on the North Shore is also owned and operated by the North Vancouver Fire Department. The District of North Vancouver is unique in profile and geography: Canada’s largest and busiest ocean port is located in the District of North Vancouver; it is home to a variety of waterfront industries; the Trans Canada highway is a major arterial route through the community; it contains single and multi-family residences, a vibrant business community, rivers, canyons, wilderness trails, and a major commuter bridge. As a result, the North Vancouver Fire Department delivers a diverse set of emergency services: structural and wildland urban interface firefighting, motor vehicle rescue, high angle rescue, tower crane rescue, swift water rescue, hazardous materials response, pre-hospital medical response, and marine firefighting (in partnership with other port-adjacent fire departments). Support services provided by the North Vancouver Fire Department include training, public education, fire inspection, and mechanical maintenance. On average, the District of North Vancouver Fire Department responds to 4,200 calls each year and works closely with its partner agencies on the North Shore: the City of North Vancouver Fire Department, West Vancouver Fire Rescue, RCMP, British Columbia Ambulance Service, West Vancouver Police, North Shore Search and Rescue, and the North Shore Emergency Management Office. The Fire Department holds the unique distinction of being one of the only accredited fire service training providers in British Columbia to offer programs to more than 20 BC departments in areas of Officer Development, Technical Rescue, Fire Service Instructor, and Hazardous Materials Response.

We had a great time visiting Lynn Valley, Parkgate, and Capilano Libraries earlier this week supporting North Vancouver District Public Library's Summer Reading Club.

Kids can take on the challenge of 50 days of reading this summer, earning a book and a medal when they finish. This year’s theme is Under the Sea!

Today, we pause to remember Captain Danny Williams and honour his sacrifice in service to our community.

On this day in 1985, Captain Williams lost his life in the line of duty while responding to an emergency in the District of North Vancouver. A 28-year veteran of the department, Danny dedicated much of his life to protecting others and serving his community with professionalism, courage, and commitment.

Forty-one years later, his contributions continue to be remembered by those who serve today and by the community he helped protect. His legacy is reflected in the values of service, dedication, and duty that remain at the heart of District of North Vancouver Fire & Rescue Services.

Please join us in taking a moment to reflect on Captain Danny Williams' life, service, and lasting impact on our department and community.

We will never forget.

Firefighter Dax Blackett receives the Fire Chiefs Commendation.

On behalf of the District of North Vancouver Fire Rescue Services and our community, I want to recognize Firefighter Dax Blackett for his outstanding actions on February 1, 2026.

While off duty, Dax quickly identified a life threatening situation during a hockey game at the North Shore Winter Club and stepped in without hesitation to provide critical care. His calm, skilled response, applying pressure and a tourniquet to control severe bleeding, played a vital role in saving a life.

Dax’s professionalism in that moment reflects great credit on himself and our department. We are very proud of his actionsgg and grateful for his commitment to helping others.
