This is the official page for Ta na wa Téy̓wilhay̓lhem (Squamish Nation Public Safety), which is responsible for ensuring the safety and resiliency of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh People and communities. Public Safety currently focuses on two core program areas: Emergency Planning & Response and Community Safety, which is home to the Squamish Nation Community Safety Team (CST). Emergency Planning & Res

ponse: The Emergency Planning & Response Team helps communities to prepare for emergencies and provides support before, during and after disasters happen, ensuring Sḵwx̱wú7mesh People have the help they need. Community Safety Team (CST): CST observe, record, and report on community safety issues on Sḵwx̱wú7mesh lands. CST also help keep Sḵwx̱wú7mesh People safe by monitoring safety concerns, liaising with police, supporting Nation events, controlling speeding and traffic, acting as a point of contact on safety matters, assisting with weather emergencies and evacuations, and supporting animal control and the mobile outreach initiative. 🐻🌲 We’ve had recent bear activity reported in Squamish Valley, particularly around Fergie's Landing, where a bear and her three cubs have been spotted.

As we enjoy the beautiful outdoors in our Valley, let’s remember to stay vigilant and respectful of our wildlife neighbours.

Good things to keep in mind: Maintain a safe distance from bears and other wildlife; If you’re hiking, please secure your food and eliminate any outdoor attractants.

If you witness any bear incidents or have concerns, please report them to the Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) line at 1-877-952-7277.

International Overdose Awareness Day - Our CST will be supporting this healing event on Friday

Don’t forget to join Yúustway at ‘eskékxw chat mi háhalhi7’ (We Gather to Heal) this Friday, in honour of International Overdose Awareness Day.

Featuring guest speaker Guy Felicella, drum painting, and a screening of the documentary 'Crazywater', this is a chance for those affected by the toxic drug crisis to grieve and connect in a safe space.

Squamish Valley - Road Closure in Effect

In the Squamish Valley, due to escalating wildfire risk, vehicle access to the estuary via Bailey Street is closed.

The District of Squamish is erecting barriers and issuing notices that “All vehicles currently within the closure area are asked to leave the unpaved portion of Bailey Street immediately."

This closure is in response to the wildfire risk in the area and the province's current state of emergency.

Squamish Nation staff will be able to access the area and will participate in towing vehicles that do not comply, as Bailey Street crosses into Nation land.

Off-Road Vehicle and Campfire Ban

British Columbia is currently under a State of Provincial Emergency due to regional wildfires. Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) is following all provincial restrictions, and this means a temporary ban on off-road vehicle use for recreational purposes. This ban includes all Sḵwx̱wú7mesh territory as off-road vehicles can spark wildfires.

The Province says, "Off-road vehicles include all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), motorcycle, and off-road side-by-side vehicles."

A campfire ban is also in place for all Sḵwx̱wú7mesh territory.

Please remain vigilant to all activities that could spark more wildfires under these current hot and dry conditions.

If you witness any fire ban violations, or wildfires, report it to 911. You can also call the Nation’s 24/7 Public Safety Line at 604-982-9938.
