Oakbank RCMP make arrest, seize drugs and cash

On August 5, 2026, at approximately 10:40 p.m., Oakbank RCMP received a report of a possible assault at a residence in the RM of Springfield.

Officers attended and searched the property but did not locate anyone who had been assaulted.
As officers were preparing to leave, a male drove onto the property in a truck.

The male appeared to be injured, and EMS was dispatched.

When the male exited the vehicle, a bag containing illegal drugs fell to the ground. The 66-year-old male was arrested.

Further investigation revealed the vehicle he was driving had been reported stolen. Additional illicit drugs and an undisclosed amount of cash were also located in the vehicle.

Gordon Friesen, 66, of the RM of Springfield, was arrested and is facing the following charges:

• Possession of property obtained by crime less than $5,000;
• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000;
• Possession for the purpose of trafficking; and
• Fail to comply with a release order.

Friesen was remanded and held for court.

The RM of Springfield along with other areas around Winnipeg are getting reports of vehicle and property thefts. The RCMP would like to remind people to remove keys from vehicles and keep vehicles and properties locked.

Please report any suspicious activity to RCMP at 204-444-3391. For crimes in progress or emergencies, call 911 immediately.

Oakbank RCMP investigating single vehicle rollover

On July 28, 2026, at approximately 7:15 pm., Oakbank RCMP were dispatched to a single vehicle rollover at Garven Road and Highway 59 in the RM of Springfield.

Officers arrived on scene and located four males who had gotten themselves out of the vehicle which was laying on it’s side.

Information was obtained that the vehicle had been driving north on the gravel service road and attempted to turn eastbound on Garven Road when it struck the ditch, went over the curb and rolled.

The 26-year-old driver and a 27-year-old passenger were taken to hospital with minor injuries, the other 2 males aged 22 and 25 were treated on scene.

Oakbank RCMP continue to investigate.

We’ve got your back, Folkies!

The 2026 Winnipeg Folk Festival is officially underway at Bird’s Hill Provincial Park.

For the first time in the festival's history, this event is sold out. With thousands of attendees expected, the RCMP is preparing for a large amount of traffic in the area and a very busy festival weekend.

Did you know, your Folk Fest ticket includes a free shuttle ride (Folk Fest Express) between to the City of Winnipeg, campgrounds and festivities.

If you are planning on attending the event, make sure that:

• Stay hydrated;
• Wear sunscreen;
• Plan a safe ride home;
• Never consume food, drinks or substances given to you by an unfamiliar source;
• Stay aware of your surroundings;

Beausejour RCMP respond to fatal collision involving an ATV on Provincial Road 302.

Beausejour RCMP respond to fatal collision involving an ATV

On June 25, 2026, at 5:20 p.m., Beausejour RCMP responded to a collision involving an ATV on Provincial Road 302, near Road 71 North, in the RM of Brokenhead.

Emergency Medical Services were already on scene when Police arrived and advised the male driver of the ATV, a 19-year-old male from the RM of Brokenhead, had been pronounced deceased on scene.

It was determined the ATV was travelling east on Road 71 North when it was hit by a gravel truck travelling north on Provincial Road 302.

The other driver, a 60-year-old male from Steinbach, was not injured.

Beausejour RCMP, with the assistance of Manitoba RCMP Traffic Services, continue to investigate.

On June 17, the Selkirk, Oakbank, Beausejour and Lac du Bonnet RCMP detachments received reports of thefts.

At 9:53 am, Selkirk RCMP received a report of a theft from motor vehicle in a field off Highway 12, near Road 88 N, in the RM of St Clements. A male wearing a mask drove up to the parked vehicle in a grey GMC truck and stole the keys for the vehicle and other items from inside it. There was another occupant inside the suspect vehicle.

At 10:10 am, Lac du Bonnet RCMP received a report of a stolen vehicle from a field on Road 435, near Allegra Road, in the RM of Lac du Bonnet. The two male suspects dressed in dark clothing were seen in a grey GMC 1500 and stole a black Dodge Ram from that location. The Dodge Ram has black stock rims, tow mirrors and aftermarket large exhaust.

At 10:30 am, Beausejour RCMP received a report of a theft from motor vehicle in a field off Highway 12, near Ladywood, in the RM of Brokenhead. Two males drove up to the parked vehicle in a dark coloured crew cab truck and stole items from inside it.

At 12:11 pm, Oakbank RCMP received a report of a theft of gas on Co-Op Drive in Oakbank. A Grey GMC 1500 crew cab with no front plate fueled up and left without paying. The male driver had a short dark beard with black shirt and white hat. The licence plate on the truck was reported stolen later in the evening to the Powerview RCMP.

It is believed that all these incidents may all be related. Anybody with information is asked to call their local RCMP detachment to make a report or by reporting to Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, or secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.
