TURNING KNOWLEDGE INTO CHANGE: An evening with Steven Paikin - A Look at the Last Decade in Ontario Politics

The CDH Civic Action Forum is Tuesday September 8, 2026 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. This annual event showcases and celebrates the work of Community Development Halton (CDH) and the CDH Board of Directors invites YOU to this community evening focused on building a more civically informed and engaged Halton.

The evening features keynote speaker Steve Paikin presenting an overview of the last decade in Ontario politics. For more than four decades, Steve Paikin has been a sober voice of rational, fact-based journalism in a world where “alternative facts” too often seem in vogue. He is now the host of The Paikin Podcast, a weekly offering focused on national and international affairs, plus one-on-one interviews. There will be a short Q&A session following the presentation.

The event takes place at Port Nelson United Church in Burlington.

Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased at: https://www.cdhalton.ca/event-details/civic-action-forum-turning-knowledge-into-change

The Oakville District Labour Council continues to mourn alongside the community and the Town of Oakville. We would like to share the following details regarding the memorial for Mr. Grant.

I’m not entirely sure what to say as I process this news. Marc was my councillor for almost all the time I’ve lived here, and I’m deeply saddened.

My last message to him was wishing him a happy Father’s Day. Over the past few months, leading up to the filing period, we had shared some laughs and jokes, and I was genuinely looking forward to the possibility of working with Marc.

He always showed up for labour and for our Oakville District Labour Council Day of Mourning ceremonies every April 28th. He understood the importance of standing with workers and with the community.

Oakville has lost one of its good people. I hope the example he set inspires the next generation to show up, serve, and make a difference.

Rest in power, Marc. You were a good civil servant and a valued member of our community.
