Congratulations, . Saturday's CRAFT Live Waterfront Fete was another good one.

You started African, Caribbean and Black Canadian Appreciation Month in 2021 and built it into something Oakville counts on every August.

Paramedic services in Oakville are delivered by Halton Region and shared across Oakville, Burlington, Milton and Halton Hills.

One service, four communities, and crews that cross municipal lines every day to get to whoever called.

The Province is providing additional funding this year for land ambulance service in Halton, along with support for dedicated offload nurses so crews can get back on the road faster.

I was glad to join our local MPPs, including Effie Triantafilopoulos, in welcoming this support. We appreciate it.

Thank you to Halton's paramedics. The funding helps. You are what makes it work.

Back in January I told you Oakville had been selected to host the U17 World Challenge. Here's the follow-up: it's nearly here.

November 1 to 7 at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. The 34th edition of this tournament, and the first time Oakville has hosted it.

The players have already been through here. Eighty of them came to Sixteen Mile in July for Canada's development camp. Some will be back in November wearing the leaf.

Fifteen hundred seats. Seven days. The best under-17 players in the world.

Preparations are nearly complete, and Hockey Canada is still looking for volunteers. If you want to help run this, now's the time.

Tonight we gathered at Veronica Tyrrell Park to mark Veronica Tyrrell Day.

Veronica was founding president of the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton and a founding member of the Halton Multicultural Council. She taught this town its own history, including Oakville's place on the Underground Railroad. Her advocacy shaped this community and it still guides us.

She was also my friend.

I was proud to present the proclamation declaring August 27, 2026 as Veronica Tyrrell Day in the Town of Oakville.

Thank you to Olly Hughes and the Canadian Caribbean Association of Halton for hosting, and to everyone who brought a chair and stayed for the evening.

I spoke with CityNews today about the potential impacts of the tariffs.

The $7.5 billion support package announced by our Federal government is a strong first step coming out of the gate. I know Oakville residents and businesses appreciate this strong commitment from our federal partners.

Oakville is home to more than 300 manufacturing businesses and close to 10,000 people who work in them.
The trucks built here run on transmissions from Ohio and axles from Michigan. The engines come from Windsor, and that same plant supplies Ford's truck line in Kentucky.

One engine plant. Two assembly plants. Two countries.
The cities and towns on both sides of this border are part of the same production line that gives us North America's great auto industry. You cannot put a tariff on one vehicle without both sides of the border feeling it.

For eighteen years I have chaired the Auto Mayors caucus that is made up of 49 communities with a stake in our integrated auto industry and supply chains. We met in Oakville recently and discussed the future of the industry and the potential impacts of tariffs.

The Auto Mayors caucus passed a motion unanimously, backing the federal government's work in the Canada-U.S. trade talks to protect the long-term future of our auto industry.

Towne Square is getting rebuilt.

For more than 35 years it's been where downtown gathers. The tree lighting. Summer evenings. No occasion at all.

Now it gets better. Amphitheatre seating. A water feature. More trees, decorative lighting, accessible paving throughout.

Work begins the week of September 14 and finishes in September 2027.

Downtown stays open. That was the condition. Council approved the phasing plan in May, after staff went back to the businesses and the BIA to get it right.

The Holiday Tree Lighting stays in Towne Square this season.

The Millennium Tower Clock comes out for safekeeping and goes back when the work is done.

This morning I joined Kerr Street Mission and the Rotary Club of Oakville to launch KSM's first full-size refrigerated food truck.

Refrigeration changes what a food program can do. Fresh and perishable food can now travel farther and reach more people, safely.

The truck was funded entirely by the Rotary Club of Oakville. Thank you to President Susan Sheppard and Rotary's members — this is what service above self looks like.

Thank you to Gary O'Neill, Tony O'Dell and the KSM team for the work behind it, and to MP Sima Acan and Councillors Cathy Duddeck, Janet Haslett-Theall and Ray Chisholm for being there.

Thirty-five years ago today, Ukraine declared its independence.

Today in Oakville, our community gathered at the St. Volodymyr Event Centre to raise the Ukrainian flag and mark that anniversary.

Oakville is home to a significant Ukrainian-Canadian community. This is their milestone, and their homeland is still defending it.

Thank you to everyone who organized the ceremony, including our very own Councillor Natalia Lishchyna, and to all who came out with flags and vyshyvanky.

Oakville stands with Ukraine.
