Happy International Women's Day!
Did you know that out of the nine warrants at 540, eight are women, including the WO1? They play a vital role in the staff team, helping to lead the squadron. Without these hardworking women, the squadron wouldn't be where it is today. Thank you to all the past, present, and future female cadets of 540 for serving your community with grace and dedication.

celebrating Flight Sergeant Chirag Chidananda's remarkable cadet journey and his next chapter at the United States Air Force Academy, Class of 2028. ๐ŸŒŸ
Since day one, FSgt Chidananda embraced the cadet experience, which sparked his interest in a military career. His dedication and hard work have allowed him to part take in some invaluable experiences. From Ground School and leadership roles to summer training experiences like an international exchange to the United States Civil Air Patrol School. Each step of his cadet career helped FSgt Chidananda get to this next step.
FSgt Chidananda's mantra, to "stop at nothing until I accomplish my mission," reflects the spirit of determination that has led him to a spot in the United States Air Force Academy. As he moves on from our squadron, we are proud to have been a part of his journey and are excited to see him thrive as he takes on the challenges and rewards of becoming a professional Air Force or Space Force officer.
Congratulations, FSgt Chidananda! You've shown us that with perseverance and commitment, the sky's the limit. Your squadron family will be cheering you on as you embark on this new journey. ๐Ÿ›ซ ๐ŸŽ“

Together we can break the silence and spark a conversation! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’ฌ

540โ€™s cadets had a message to share for todays Day. With activities such as our colouring station, our cadets were able to show their support, engage in calming activities and have honest discussions.

Letโ€™s unite against stigma and support mental health awareness. Every conversation matters!

Take a look at what 540's been up to during the first half 2023-2024 training year!

So far, this training year, 540 squadron has been very busy. From the welcome back BBQ and first training night in September to the bagging and fall FTX in October. In November, we had the poppy tagging and attended remembrance day parades and Santa Claus parades. Finally, to close off the year, we had the CAF famil day and sports night before the winter stand-down in December. Thank you to the Golden Hawks family for a great 2023. Cheers to an even better 2024!

Our story

Named after the precision flight team of the Royal Canadian Air Force, 540 Golden Hawks Squadron is one of 450+ Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadrons in Canada and has been serving the youth of Oakville, Ontario since 1951.

540 Sqnโ€™s training year closely follows the school year, running from September to June. Mandatory regular training runs every Tuesday evening at T. A. Blakelock High School, with the rest of the week full of other weekly team practices such as our band, drill teams, ground school (pilot training), debating, effective speaking, sports, range team, orienteering, and more. Additionally, there are many weekend activities such as Field Training Exercises, glider familiarization flights, and sports competitions.

Most of the training is performed by senior cadets and covers topics such as drill, first-aid, instructional techniques, leadership, marksmanship, meteorology, navigation, principles of flight, survival training, and more. During the summer months, cadets have the opportunity to apply for summer training courses that can run from two to seven weeks.

All training events are posted to our calendar found at http://540goldenhawks.ca
