The historic buildings of Erchless Estate were once home to Oakville’s founding family but are now the setting for Oakville's community museum. Colonel William Chisholm, an enterprising merchant and shipbuilder, founded the town and built Erchless overlooking his new harbour and Lake Ontario. Today, visitors can still enjoy that magnificent view and explore the beautiful buildings, grounds and gar

dens of Erchless. The Oakville Museum offers guided tours of the Chisholm family home, changing exhibitions, special events and programs that tell the fascinating stories of our town. Oakville Museum is located on the Treaty Lands #22 of the Mississaugas of the Credit. We acknowledge and thank the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, for being stewards of this traditional territory.

Created by Grade 10 history students at Garth Webb Secondary and inspired by photos from The ArQuives, this exhibit celebrates the bravery, perseverance and heart of Canada’s 2SLGBTQ+ community.

Our Sunset Socials outdoor music series kicks off in two weeks! Join us June 18 at 7 p.m. for an evening of swing music from the golden age of jazz with Alex Pangman. Accompanied by Drew Jurecka on violin and Nathan Hiltz on guitar, Alex will bring the sound of a bygone era to life at the Coach House. Grab your friends and drop by the Oakville Museum for a summer night to remember. Don't forget to pack a blanket or lawn chair!

Stolen Childhoods, a travelling exhibit curated and organized by the Survivors' Secretariat, opens this Thursday, June 4 in the Coach House.

The exhibit explores the lived experiences of children at the Mohawk Institute Residential School, and the lasting impacts of Canada’s Residential School system. The Mohawk Institute operated for more than 140 years, during which around 15,000 Indigenous children were forced through its doors under government authority.

Through photographs, archival records, and Survivor testimony, the exhibit serves as a tool for education, remembrance, and advocacy.

The Oakville Festivals of Film & Art event will feature a Q&A with Producer, Journalist and author Tanya Talaga and others from the film.

Bloodroot is an early blooming native flower in our garden. For centuries, Indigenous artisans have used its natural dye to colour plant materials and quills for basket making.

Craft, plant seeds and explore historic gardens with Tots n' Pots, a fun 2-day program for kids 3-5. Two sessions are available, starting May 22 and May 27 from 9:45 to 11:15 a.m.
