Reminder: Goats need their beauty rest too!🐐

There are some new neighbours in the off-leash dog park, and we know your pups are curious! These goats are hard at work munching on invasive weeds, and after a long day they need their rest. Please try and give these hard workers some space, especially in the early morning and evening hours.

Thank you for helping our goats do their important (and tasty) job!

A major milestone is flowing our way! 💧

Today, we celebrated an important step forward in the Foothills Okotoks Regional Water Project with a valve turning ceremony marking the completion of approximately 25 kilometres of watermain.

The ceremony also marked the start of interim seasonal water delivery to Okotoks — a significant achievement made possible through years of planning, strong regional collaboration with Foothills County, and valuable funding support from the provincial and federal governments.

This project is helping secure a reliable water supply to support our growing communities for generations to come, and we're proud to celebrate this milestone together.

We’ve got another myth to clear up...and this one feels especially timely after last week’s rainfall and high streamflow advisory.
❌ Myth: Okotoks hasn’t done much to improve flood protection since past floods.
✅Fact: A lot has changed. Since the 2005 and 2013 floods, the Town has completed a wide range of projects to reduce flood risk and better protect our community. That includes:
👉 Installing check valves to stop river water from backing into neighbourhoods
👉 Strengthening riverbanks and protecting wells at higher flood levels
👉 Adding stormwater diversion routes to keep water away from downtown
👉 Upgrading access and protection around the Water Treatment Plant
👉 Improving drainage systems to handle heavy rainfall and reduce flooding risks
📝We’ve also continued smaller, local upgrades across town—and a new flood vulnerability study is underway to identify what comes next. Flood resilience is an ongoing effort, and this work is part of a long-term approach to keeping Okotoks safe.

💧River Update: June 8 as of 11:30 a.m. - High streamflow advisory lifted
The Town of Okotoks has officially lifted Stage 1 of our Emergency Management Plan following improved weather conditions and the end of the recent High Streamflow Advisory for our region.

The Sheep River remains high, fast-flowing and cold, with unpredictable currents and hidden hazards like debris, overhanging branches, slippery rocks, and sudden drop-offs. Even if it looks calm on the surface, the conditions below can be dangerous. For your safety, we are urging everyone to stay off and out of the river at this time.

⚠️River Safety Reminders:
• Avoid water activities like tubing, swimming, or kayaking.
• Keep children and pets away from the riverbank—it may be unstable or slippery.
• Stay on marked trails and avoid high-flow areas.
