Felt good to be back with my hardworking team behind me.

This work is never done alone. I’m grateful to everyone who shares their stories, concerns and ideas, and gives their time and energy to help make advocacy possible and move things forward.

I’m grateful for my fellow elected officials too. We may not always agree, but we each carry the responsibility of representing Yukoners and doing our best to serve them.

Here’s to a productive and collegial fall sitting 😊

Heard it was a beautiful morning in Whitehorse today. Mahsi to Council of Yukon First Nations and YFNED for bringing people together, and to Grand Chief Math’ieya Alatini for what I understand was a moving speech.

There’s been a lot to carry lately, and today has me thinking about the weight of this legacy and how much First Nations families and communities continue to carry. The impacts of residential schools and colonialism aren’t something we can set down after one day of reflection. They’re felt in our families, our communities, our languages and our lives. And yet we continue to find ways to heal, to reclaim what was taken from us, and to carry our cultures and our stories forward.

Today, I’m thinking about the children who never came home, Survivors and their families, and the responsibility we all share to keep moving forward on reconciliation 🧡

Today is about remembering the children who never came home, honouring Survivors, and listening to the families and communities who carry these stories.

Residential schools aren't ancient history, and they aren't something anyone can rewrite or debate away. The truth has been documented, and Survivors have shared their experiences for generations. That truth is part of our communities and our shared history.

Today, we remember. We listen. And we recommit to the path of reconciliation.

Join us for a Healing and Honour Walk, a shared meal, creative activities, and an afternoon of sharing and storytelling.

11 a.m. – Prayer and Honour Walk
11:30 a.m. – Gathering at KDCC and remarks from Grand Chief Math'ieya Alatini
Noon – Stew and bannock - everyone is welcome
12:30 p.m. – Orange shirt making with Cole Pauls
2 p.m. – Secwépemc Elder Norman Retasket shares his story
3 p.m. – Closing

Congratulations to newly elected Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation Chief Lance Nagwan and Councillors Lisa Van Fleet, Ciara Kakwí-Frost, Brandon Kyikavichik and Ryan Newman-Kay.

I look forward to working together for our friends, family and neighbours in Old Crow, and to doing that work in a good way.

Mahsi to everyone who put their names forward to serve, and to everyone who took the time to cast a ballot. Thank you as well to the outgoing Chief and Council for the years they gave to our community.

To my constituents of Vuntut Gwitchin, to my relatives and friends, tomorrow we lay to rest a young Tyson Tizya. As I cannot be home to help, I send all my love and prayers to each one of you during this time. Hold up Tysons family, hold up all our youth in OC that are hurting so badly. To the boy who loved caps, designer clothes, mudding with quads, had a sweet smile and quiet way, may you rest in peace dear Tyson❤️🙏❤️🙏

URGENT DRUG SUPPLY ALERT

A highly potent synthetic opioid called Cychlorphine has been detected through wastewater monitoring in Whitehorse. It has been linked to severe overdoses that can happen very quickly.

Cychlorphine may be difficult to detect through some drug-checking methods. Please take extra precautions:

• Do not use alone.
• Start with a smaller amount and go slowly.
• Carry naloxone and know how to use it.
• Avoid mixing substances.
• If using with someone else, stagger your use so someone is available to respond.
• Check in on family, friends and loved ones who use substances.

If someone is in medical distress related to substance use, call 911 immediately. Give naloxone if you have it and stay with the person until help arrives, even if their symptoms do not look like a typical opioid overdose.

VGFN offers free naloxone kits and training for Citizens. For information, contact Maria Francis at [email protected].

Drug test kits are also available at the VGFN Administration Office, Chief Zzeh Gittlit School and the Old Crow Health Centre.
