Ever wonder just how dirty and sweaty we get on calls?

Here are a few photos after being dispatched to a vegetation fire. Between the heat, smoke, ash, it doesn’t take long before we’re soaked in sweat and covered head to toe in dirt.

Sometimes we even end up rinsing off our gear with the very water we brought to fight the fire just to knock some of the dirt and ash off before heading back to the hall.

It may not always look glamorous, but we’re proud to do what we do and serve our community when it matters most.

Please note that the current Fire Ban issued by Mountain View County does not apply within the Town of Olds at this time.

While conditions remain dry, the fire risk within an urban centre such as Olds is different than in rural areas where there is significantly more grassland, brush, and open space exposure. Residents are still encouraged to use caution with any outdoor burning activities and remain mindful of changing conditions.

Today, on International Firefighters’ Day, we recognize and thank the firefighters who serve our community and communities around the world.

At any hour, in any condition, they are ready to answer the call, often putting others before themselves. Their commitment takes many forms, from training and prevention work to responding when people need help most.

Thank you to all firefighters, past and present.

It might look like we’re playing with a doll house… but there’s a lot more going on behind the scenes.

This training prop helps our firefighters understand how fire behaves inside a structure all in real time.

Thanks again Men's Shed of Olds for building the doll house for us!

Huge thank you to our neighbours at Didsbury Fire Department for their quick response and support at today’s bale fire. We appreciate the support and assistance on scene.

With the warmer weather and wind, it’s a good reminder that fire risk can increase quickly. Please be cautious with any outdoor burning, properly dispose of smoking materials, and never leave a lit fire unattended.
