Data Centre Update: June 2026

At this time, there are no major changes to report. The Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) review process is expected to continue over the next several months.

The Synapse proposal was resubmitted in early April and is currently proceeding through the AUC review process. The Town of Olds has filed a Statement of Intent to Participate, reflecting what we have heard from the community. Our role is to ensure the regulatory process provides clear, evidence-based answers about both the potential benefits and potential impacts of the project before any approvals are granted.

We also want to thank residents who have taken the time to participate. Community perspectives are an important part of the official record.
There is no development permit application submitted to the Town of Olds at this time from Synapse or Data District.

The next phase of the AUC process includes information requests and the submission of evidence by approved interveners. Residents interested in participating should review the AUC requirements and deadlines carefully.
We are tracking the project status at https://engage.olds.ca/data-centre-development

🚧 Water Service Update – 57 Avenue Project

Good news! Repairs have been completed and water service has now been restored to all affected residences and businesses.

Residents may notice some temporary discolouration as the system returns to normal operation. This is caused by changes in water flow and is a result of valve operations and hydrant flushing during the repair work. Crews have been monitoring water quality throughout the repair process, including chlorine and turbidity (water clarity) testing.

If you experience discoloured water, we recommend running your cold-water tap until the water runs clear.

Thank you to our residents and businesses for your patience and understanding while crews worked to resolve this unexpected issue. We also want to thank our staff and contractors for their efforts in completing the repairs and restoring service as quickly as possible.

As construction continues on the 57 Avenue project, time-sensitive service updates may be issued outside regular business hours. To receive notifications directly to your phone or email, sign up for Voyent Alert! at https://voyent-alert.com/community/

🚨 IT'S A TRAP! 🚨..for the Emerald Ash Borer beetle.

If you've spotted a bright green box hanging in an ash tree near the Olds Municipal Library, don't panic. It's not a birdhouse. It's part of how we're monitoring and protecting our ash trees.

The Town of Olds, in partnership with Olds College and STOP DED, is participating in the Emerald Ash Borer Trap Monitoring Program.

These traps help monitor for the invasive beetle, which has killed millions of ash trees across North America. Finding it early gives communities the best chance to respond and protect local trees.

The traps are:
βœ… Non-toxic
βœ… Safe for people, pets, and wildlife
βœ… An important tool for early detection

So if you see one hanging in a tree, you've found the beetle's worst nightmare.
