Wildlife Wednesday 🐸

Frogs are an important part of Ontario's ecosystems. They help control insect populations and serve as a food source for many birds, mammals, and reptiles.

Because frogs absorb water through their skin, they are sensitive to changes in their environment. Healthy frog populations are often a sign of healthy wetlands and waterways.

Keep an eye out near ponds, marshes, and other wet areas during your visit-you may spot one resting along the shoreline 🌿

🌲It’s 🪵

You may notice fallen branches, logs, and other deadwood around the park during your visit. While it can be tempting to move them or add them to the campfire, these natural materials play an important role in the forest ecosystem.

Woody biomass provides shelter and habitat for wildlife, supports insects and fungi, and helps return nutrients to the soil as it naturally decomposes 🌿

By leaving deadwood where it belongs, you’re helping protect the health and balance of the park. Thanks for doing your part to help keep our forests thriving!

🐢 It’s World Turtle Day! 🐢

Our park is home to several turtle species that can often be seen basking on logs, swimming through wetlands, or crossing roads in search of nesting sites this time of year.

Turtles play an important role in maintaining healthy ecosystems, but many species face threats from habitat loss, road mortality, and disturbance.

You can help protect turtles by:
• Watching for turtles on park roads
• Giving nesting areas plenty of space
• Leaving turtles where you find them
• Cleaning up all garbage and fishing line

Next time you’re out exploring, keep an eye out for one of these incredible reptiles enjoying the sunshine ☀️🌿

🦊 Spotted: A furry friend on the prowl!
You might see a fox roaming around the campground during your stay. These beautiful creatures are a natural part of our park ecosystem!🌲
If you encounter a fox:
✅ Keep your distance and observe from afar
✅ Never feed wildlife - it's harmful to them and unsafe for you
✅ Secure all food and garbage properly
✅ Keep pets on leash and close to you
✅ Make noise if a fox approaches - clap your hands or speak firmly
✅ Give them space to move away on their own
Remember, foxes are generally shy and will avoid humans when given the chance. Let's respect their home and keep both wildlife and campers safe! 💚
