⭐️ Today marked an important milestone for Tsq̓éscen̓ First Nation as Chief and Council began a new term of leadership.

This morning, two of our three newly elected Councillors were officially sworn into office. Our third newly elected Councillor was unable to attend today's ceremony and will be sworn in at a later date.

Following the swearing-in, Chief and Council immediately convened a Special Council Meeting to address important Housing Department matters requiring timely decisions. Beginning this new term with important governance work reflects Council's commitment to serving our Nation and ensuring community priorities continue to move forward.

As we welcome our newly elected leadership, we also extend our sincere gratitude to our outgoing Councillors for their service, dedication and commitment to Tsq̓éscen̓ First Nation. We thank them for the time, energy and leadership they have given to our community and wish them all the very best in their future endeavours. We also acknowledge the Administration and staff who supported today's transition and ensured a seamless continuation of governance and organizational operations.

We ask community to join us in welcoming and supporting our leadership as they begin this new journey together. May they be guided by wisdom, respect, humility, courage, honesty, truth and love as they work on behalf of Tsq̓éscen̓.

Please see that Category 1 campfires will be prohibited through the Cariboo that includes Tsq̓éscen̓ First Nation Canim lake, BC

Effective at 12 p.m. (noon) Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) on Wednesday July 22, 2026, Category 1 campfires will be prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre, including the Tsilhqot’in (Xeni Gwet’in) Declared Title Area.

This campfire prohibition will remain in effect until October 31, 2026, at 12 p.m. (noon) PDT, or until the order is rescinded.

Effective at 12 p.m. (noon) Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) on Wednesday July 22, 2026, Category 1 campfires will be prohibited throughout the Cariboo Fire Centre, including the Tsilhqot’in (Xeni Gwet’in) Declared Title Area.

In addition to Category 1, Category 2 and Category 3 open fires being prohibited, the following activities materials and equipment also remain restricted:

• Air curtain burners
• Carbonizers
• Binary exploding targets
• Fireworks, as defined in the Fireworks Act of BC
• Burn barrels or burn cages of any size or description
• Controlled air incinerators
• Sky lanterns
• Wood fired hot tubs, wood fired pizza ovens and other wood fired devices unless vented through a structure that has a flue and is incorporated in a building

This campfire prohibition will remain in effect until October 31, 2026, at 12 p.m. (noon) PDT, or until the order is rescinded.

🇨🇦 Canada Day at the 108 Mile Heritage Site 🇨🇦

Today, Kukpi7 Brent Dixon had the honour of joining our neighbours at the 108 Mile Heritage Site to offer opening remarks during the Canada Day celebrations.

In his first Canada Day address as Kukpi7 of Tsq̓escen First Nation, Brent welcomed everyone to Tsq̓escencúl̓ecw, acknowledging that while Canada Day holds different meanings for different people, it also provides an opportunity to come together in respect, understanding and relationship.

He shared that reconciliation is built not only through words, but through conversations, shared experiences and showing up for one another. He spoke about the importance of honouring the generations who came before us while working together to create stronger communities for the generations still to come.

Brent also highlighted the significance of gathering beside the 108 Mile Heritage Site and across from the Northern Secwepemc Cultural Society Centre, reminding everyone that the story of this region is made up of many stories woven together. He encouraged visitors to stop by the Cultural Society Centre to learn more about the rich history, language and culture of the Secwépemc People.

Tsq̓escen' First Nation extends our sincere thanks to the 100 Mile House & District Historical Society, the volunteers, organizers and everyone who welcomed us so warmly today. We look forward to continuing to strengthen our relationships and working together in the spirit of mutual respect, learning and partnership.

May 5th is recognized as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ People (MMIW+). ❤️
MMIW+ stands for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and gender-diverse people, and this day brings awareness to the ongoing impacts of violence experienced by Indigenous communities.
It is a time to honor, remember, and acknowledge the lives of those who are missing or have been taken, and to stand with the families and communities who continue to carry this grief and seek justice. ❤️
The red dress has become a powerful and widely recognized symbol representing those who are missing and the presence that should still be with us.
MMIW+ is a call to raise awareness, acknowledge the impacts, support one another, and continue advocating for safety, justice, and meaningful change.❤️
