Alzheimer Society of Dufferin County The Alzheimer Society of Dufferin County is a community based non-profit charitable organization. At present, there is no cure and no known cause.

Alzheimer Disease is a degenerative, progressive disease that affects the brain. Alzheimer Disease and related disorders affect 1 in 13 Canadians over the age of 65, and an increasing number of individuals under 65. This disease affects over 700 families in Dufferin County.

Just look at these AMAZING handmade dollies! 🧶

The wonderful Susan has once again graciously donated her time and talent to hand-knit each one of these adorable little dolls and every single one is uniquely different!

For the third year in a row, Susan is giving back to the Alzheimer Society of Dufferin County in such a special way. In recognition of World Alzheimer’s Month, these dollies are available for purchase at BookLore in Orangeville, with all proceeds coming directly back to our Society to help support individuals living with dementia and their care partners right here in our community.

We are absolutely OBSESSED with them! 🥹 A huge thank you to Susan for the countless hours, love and care she puts into creating each one and for continuing to support our Society year after year. Your generosity means more than you know!

Kicking Off World Alzheimer’s Month!

Yesterday, our staff had the opportunity to set up at Headwaters Hospital to officially kick off World Alzheimer’s Month!

Throughout the day, we connected and chatted with more than 70 people....which is absolutely amazing! đź’ś

We love meeting members of our community, hearing your stories, answering your questions and helping people learn more about the support and resources available to them.

Sometimes, simply reaching out is the first step and you don’t have to wait until things feel overwhelming to connect with us.

Throughout September, we’ll continue recognizing World Alzheimer’s Month, raising awareness, sharing resources and reminding our community that support is available.

Tomorrow, our Alzheimer Society of Dufferin County team will be at Headwaters Health Care Centre to kick off our September awareness campaign and connect with our community.

Fun, connection & community!

This week, our Recreation Team had the pleasure of taking some of our clients and their care partners to 10 & 10 Mini Putt for an afternoon of fun, laughter and friendly competition! It was such a hit that we’ve already added more mini-putt dates for September!

These outings are about so much more than having fun. They provide opportunities for people living with dementia and their care partners to get out into the community, stay engaged, socialize and create meaningful moments together.

This is exactly why donations and community funding are so important. Your support helps us continue offering engaging programs, activities and experiences for the individuals and families we serve right here in Dufferin County.

WORLD ALZHEIMER'S MONTH FALL BBQ!

We are writing to share the unfortunate news that we have made the difficult decision to cancel our September to Remember Gala.

While we are disappointed that the gala will not be moving forward, we are excited to pivot and still bring our community together!

Please join us for a FREE Fall Family BBQ at Monora Park on Thursday, September 17 come anytime between 2:00–6:00 PM.
The afternoon will include:
• A delicious BBQ
• A large silent auction
• 50/50 draw
• Fun games and activities for the whole family
• Opportunities to learn more about the Alzheimer Society of Dufferin County and the services we provide in our community

Our goal for this event is to bring our community together, raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias, and highlight the programs, services and support we provide to individuals living with dementia and their care partners throughout Dufferin County.

And they're off! Cognitive Kits have been delivered to all three libraries in Dufferin County. Please check with your local library for availabilitiy as time is needed to catalouge and prepare the kits for lending.
