Our thoughts are with the families and friends grieving following the tragic events in Wainwright, Alberta, as well as with fellow service members, first responders, and everyone affected by this tragedy.

For many of our members, this tragedy hits close to home. With active and retired military personnel serving within our ranks, and our community sharing a strong connection with Canadian Forces Base Gagetown (CFB Gagetown), we understand the close bonds that exist within the military community and the impact a tragedy like this can have.

We recognize the sacrifice, dedication, and commitment of those who serve our country, and we stand alongside them and their families during this difficult time.

On behalf of the Oromocto Volunteer Firefighters Association, we extend our deepest condolences and unwavering support to the families, the Canadian Armed Forces community, first responders, and everyone affected by this loss.

Volunteers at Fire Station #2 are spending the evening conducting “Know Your Flow” training with Chief Price, working with our Elkhart Brass nozzles and Snap-Tite Hose attack packages.

Knowing your flow is a critical part of engine company operations. This training gives both our pump operators and nozzle firefighters a better understanding of how our equipment performs as a complete system from the pump to the nozzle.

Today, we remember Lieutenant Paul Martin, who left us 15 years ago today.

Paul’s memory remains a part of our department, and we remember him every time we step through the doors of the fire station. Although Paul is gone, his legacy will live on at Station 2 forever.

Rest easy, Lieutenant.

The Oromocto Fire Department is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as front-line volunteer firefighters or support members. This is a rewarding opportunity to serve your community, gain valuable skills, and be part of a strong team.

• Or drop off in person at Fire Station #1 (Administration Side – right side door), 50 Miramichi Road, Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Requirements:
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must live within the Oromocto Fire Department coverage area
• Must provide a clean Criminal/Vulnerable Sector Background Check and Driver’s Abstract
• Must successfully complete an interview, medical, and physical assessment
• Must be available for 75% of training, 50% of truck checks, and 25% of emergency calls

What We Offer:
• Weekly hands-on training (first two Tuesdays and last two Wednesdays of each month)
• Truck checks every Sunday evening
• Training and experience in a wide range of emergencies: vehicle collisions, structure fires, medical response, wildland firefighting, boat and water rescues, off-road incidents, and more

About the Department:
The Oromocto Fire Department has 54 members (career and volunteer). Career members are stationed at Station 1, while volunteers respond from Station 2. Together, we serve approximately 25,000 people and provide mutual aid to surrounding communities.

Many of our volunteer firefighters have gone on to successful careers in fire departments across New Brunswick and Canada. This could be the first step in your journey.

NEW RESCUE 2 OFFICIALLY IN SERVICE

August 23, 2026 marked a special night for the Oromocto Volunteer Firefighters Association as we officially placed our new Rescue 2 into service at Station 2.

This is a significant milestone for Station 2. Our 2001 Rescue was the only brand new apparatus received at Station 2 since 1999, making the arrival of another new truck 25 years later something pretty special for our membership.

Rescue 2 will now serve as our primary response apparatus for motor vehicle collisions while providing additional rescue and fireground capabilities to better serve Oromocto and the surrounding communities.

If you are interested in possibly having the opportunity to ride in Rescue 2, please fill out an application as we are opening our fall recruitment!

Keep an eye on our page as we’ll soon be opening applications for our Fall Recruitment! Being a volunteer firefighter is an incredibly rewarding experience, but it also comes with a significant commitment.

We hold our members to a high standard of professionalism and training to best serve the communities we protect.

Our members respond to a wide variety of emergency incidents, participate in regular training, and take pride in serving our community through public education and community events.

Minimum requirements include:
• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must reside within our response area (including communities such as Oromocto, Burton, Geary, Lincoln, and surrounding areas)
• Successfully complete a physical fitness assessment
• Pass a criminal record check
• Have a clean driving record

Throughout the evening, there will be an informative presentation on wildfire preparedness, a free community BBQ, and a Touch-a-Truck session.

Keep an eye out for more Wildfire Community Preparedness Days in the area in the coming weeks!
