FTND’s President and CEO, Ben Earle, joined global conversations on one of today’s most urgent issues: income security in a time of growing instability. The 2026 BIEN Congress, held last week, explored how basic income can help address the interconnected challenges shaping our communities, from affordability and poverty to climate disruption, inequality, and social exclusion.

At FTND, we see every day how financial insecurity affects food access, dignity, and community wellbeing. Ben’s participation brings a perspective to an international dialogue about building stronger, more inclusive systems of support.

As conversations around poverty reduction, basic income, and social policy continue to evolve, FTND remains committed to advocating for solutions that address not only immediate hunger, but the root causes behind it.

On Thursday, August 20, we attended the 3rd Annual Newton-Trelawney Golf Tournament in support of FTND!

Hosted at Deer Creek Golf Club, golfers generously brought food donations for FTND, and participated in a charity raffle. Thanks to their generosity, they were able to raise an INCREDIBLE $32,500 and 1,700 lbs of food: helping us provide 66,417 meals to those in need within our community!

Thank you to Newton-Trelawney Property Management and each of the golfers who attended the tournament, making it the biggest yet: this amazing show of support will make a huge impact on our community members facing food insecurity 💚

Today, we were pleased to welcome Food Banks Canada to Feed the Need in Durham for a tour of our facility and a closer look at how Food Banks Canada’s After the Bell program is supporting children and families across our community 🌱

Through this important program, we provide nutritious, child-friendly food packs during the summer months, helping ensure kids have the nourishment they need when school-based supports are not available.

Partnerships like this help children spend their summer doing what they should be doing: playing, growing, laughing with friends, and enjoying simple childhood moments like soaring on the swings or splashing at the community pool.

We are grateful to Food Banks Canada for their continued leadership and support, and for helping make this meaningful impact possible in Durham Region 🧡
