Hooves Up is more than a song. It is a national chorus.
Voices from across Canada sent in their tracks, building something bigger than any one of us. What you’re hearing is solidarity in harmony.
After the 2022 election, misinformation and hate began to divide neighbours in Pickering. An activist unicorn stepped forward with cardboard, markers and a camera, asking hard questions and calling on friends to stand for truth and for the communities being targeted.
Friends answered.
What began as one voice grew into many. Video by video, board by board, the message spread. The final march across the Rainbow crosswalk was not a single moment. It was a culmination. A parade of love carrying the very signs that sparked the movement. A community walking together toward City Hall in clarity, courage, and caring.
Glitter did more than march. Glitter interviewed the mayor and some of the councillors and asked what division was costing the city.
More than $100,000 in Integrity Commissioner investigations and reports.
More than $100,000 defending council in court when accountability was refused.
The greatest cost cannot be measured in dollars. It lives in the people wounded by words and actions that continue to echo.
Pickering was named "the test", so that makes Glitter a test citizen.
When hate tries to divide, we rise together.
This spring, the full story unfolds in an upcoming documentary, told through a Drag Queen Storytime about how quickly division can spread and how powerfully a community can stand up to it.
Glitter isn't just "one person". Glitter is in all of us who believe in kindness, acceptance and love.
