On Friday, September 4, Oshawa firefighters will be at Oshawa Centre collecting donations in support of Muscular Dystrophy Canada and local charities.

PLEASE SIGN & SHARE — PETITION e-7657

For years, firefighters across Canada have fought to ensure the families of fallen firefighters and first responders are supported when their loved one makes the ultimate sacrifice.

The federal Memorial Grant Program for First Responders was established in 2018 after decades of advocacy. The benefit was set at $300,000 — and it has not increased since.

Since then, inflation has increased by approximately 25%, significantly reducing the real value of the support provided to surviving families.

Firefighters from across Canada have been back on Parliament Hill this year advocating for this to change.

Petition e-7657 calls on the Government of Canada to:

➡️ Increase the Memorial Grant to reflect inflation since it was established in 2018; and
➡️ Automatically index the benefit to inflation every year going forward.

When a firefighter or first responder makes the ultimate sacrifice serving their community, the support provided to their family should not lose its value with every passing year.

We are asking our members, families, friends and the entire Oshawa community to take a minute to sign this important petition and share it with others.

Every signature helps send a message to Ottawa.
