The steelpan, also known simply as a pan or steel drum, originated in Trinidad and Tobago and is the national instrument. Did you know steelpan musicians are called pannists?
The UN General Assembly declared August 11 as World Steelpan Day, recognizing the instrument's cultural and social significance. Have you ever heard a steelpan and not wanted to move your body?

The documentary, Dream Girl: The Making of Marilyn Monroe, commemorated the 60th anniversary of her passing. Marilyn Monroe, aka Norma Jeane Mortenson, was just 36 years old when she died in August 1962.
The film reveals never-before-interviewed relatives and psychology experts and compiles a decade of research on the blonde bombshell's life.

Do you ever wonder what stories a building could tell?
For example, this is one of the buildings of Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland. In the 15th century, Nicolaus Copernicus studied here - he was the scientist who first suggested that the Earth revolved around the Sun.
Which buildings did he walk through? Where was his favourite place to study? In which corner of the university did he begin developing his ideas? How often did he visit the library?

When you're at the North Campus, what is the most recognizable landmark? Is it Polonsky Commons, the Muskoka chairs, the Reflective Pond, or the Library building?
The "Infinity Book Tower," titled Idiom, is a modern sculpture located in a public library in the heart of Prague. Created from approximately 8,000 real books, the sculpture features mirrors inside at the top and bottom. These mirrors create the illusion of a never-ending tower of books that could symbolize the infinite nature of knowledge and learning.

This is the Palace of Versailles! What was initially a modest hunting lodge eventually transformed into this magnificent palace. It's no surprise that such an impressive residence also houses its own library. These days, the library also provides its resources online. The evolution from a small country house to a grand architectural masterpiece is remarkable.
When doing your research, make sure you look at the databases on our library website. You can filter by subject and type, or by vendor if you know it.
