This week is the 8th annual International Archives Week (IAW2026).
This year’s theme, Archives For Justice: Rights, Memory & Futures, highlights the role of archives as trusted records that preserve histories, support accountability, and advance social, cultural, and intergenerational justice.
IAW2026 also calls attention to colonial legacies and the importance of inclusive, ethical archival practices that ensure equitable access for Indigenous, marginalized, and historically excluded communities.
Together, archives connect the past, present, and future while helping uphold justice for all.

June 7 marks World Food Safety Day, a global initiative that emphasizes food safety as both a universal right and a shared responsibility, calling for collective action worldwide. Everyone deserves clean, safe nourishment.

The 2026 theme, “From burden to solutions – safe food everywhere,” highlights the importance of data and science in driving informed action and effective food safety solutions. Search our OMNI catalogue for books and eBooks on "Food Safety."

Red Shirt Day of Action is a Canada-wide event where people wear red to support those living with disabilities. It’s a chance to celebrate achievements and continue working towards removing barriers – physical, attitudinal, and systemic.

Menstrual Hygiene Day's goal is to help end period stigma and address period poverty, which affects 1 in 6 Canadian menstruators. Check out what the Ontario Tech Student Union is doing to help with access to neccessary supplies.

Asian Heritage Month has been celebrated in Canada since the 1990s, but it wasn't until 2002 that May was officially recognized as the month to celebrate it across the country.
This year’s theme, “Honouring Asian Canadians: Stories that Built Canada,” is all about recognizing the important role Asian Canadians have played — and continue to play — in shaping Canada’s story.

Happy Bee Day! Our campus is a designated Bee City Campus, due to several hectares of native wildflower gardens at our Windfields Farm lands. You can buy this delicious wildflower honey at Hunter's Kitchen to support the operation and growth of the university's Pollinator Project.

It was only in 1990 that the World Health Organization removed homosexuality from its International Classification of Diseases. However, that decision opened a door.

Communities around the world mark the anniversary each year, demanding that doors keep opening. Today, on May 17, we recognize the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, a global moment of solidarity and resistance for LGBTQIA+ communities.

Today is Moose Hide Campaign Day, a day of ceremony and action calling on people across Turtle Island to take a stand against violence toward women, children, and those on the gender continuum.

A moose hide pin shows your personal commitment to honour, respect, and protect women and children. These pins are considered gifts of medicine. You can pick up a moose hide pin (vegan option available) in the Library.
