Media reports confirm the IJC’s earlier scoop that PM Mark Carney is seeking to re-open the Islamic regime’s embassy in Ottawa.

Unlike PM Carney, who engaged in no consultation regarding this decision, the IJC has held, and will continue to hold, consultations with stakeholders. We will seek to mobilize against this decision.

Rather than standing with the many thousands of Iranians killed and tortured by Iran’s regime over the past 4 decades, PM Carney is standing with their killers and torturers.

Canada must not reopen the Islamic Republic’s embassy!

The Iranian Justice Collective (“IJC”) has received credible information that the Government of Canada intends to restore diplomatic relations with the Islamic Republic and reopen its embassy, closed by Conservative Prime Minister Harper in 2012. The ending of diplomatic relations has been the correct, bipartisan policy pursued by Liberal governments since then.

This regime has murdered Canadians, continues to engage in foreign interference and transnational repression on Canadian soil, has engaged in mass murder in recent months, and has never been held accountable for its crimes.

It must not be rewarded.

The IJC will continue to engage with parliamentarians, allies, and civil society to oppose any move that normalizes relations absent meaningful change and accountability.

Iranian Justice Collective (IJC) extends its sincere condolences to the family of Masood Masjoody, an Iranian-Canadian mathematics professor and political activist, following his tragic murder.

There is a strong likelihood that Mr. Masjoody’s murder is an example of political violence, which we condemn in all its forms. The murder may also constitute transnational repression, an issue on which the IJC has long warned Canada’s policymakers. We hope that this tragic event serves as a wake-up call to Canadian officials that transnational repression is an issue that needs immediate and urgent attention.
