Yesterday, August 9, 2026, marked International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, an opportunity to recognize the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples in Canada and around the world.

At the Office of the Procurement Ombud (OPO), we are committed to promoting fair, open, and transparent federal procurement for all. This includes reviewing procurement practices of federal departments through our Procurement Practice Reviews (PPRs).

OPO recently completed a PPR related to contracts awarded to Indigenous businesses. The review provides insights into federal procurement practices and includes recommendations to strengthen procurement processes and support meaningful opportunities for Indigenous businesses.

The Office of the Procurement Ombud (OPO) frequently reviews the procurement practices of federal departments to assess their fairness, openness and transparency, and to make recommendations for improvement when appropriate.

As part of its ongoing oversight role, OPO follows up on recommendations arising from these reviews to determine whether federal departments have implemented action plans in response to the Procurement Ombud’s recommendations.

The Procurement Ombud recently conducted a Follow-up Review of his 2021-22 Procurement Practice Review (PPR) of Shared Services Canada (SSC).

The Financial Administration Act states that the Government of Canada is committed to taking appropriate measures to promote fairness, openness, and transparency in the bidding process for federal contracts.

These principles help support a procurement system that is accessible, accountable, and fair for suppliers.
