On Friday, 24 July 2026, the High Commission for the Cooperative Republic of Guyana in Ottawa, Canada, hosted an “Evening of Reflection and Prayer”, in remembrance of the victims of the M.V. Barima Tragedy.

In attendance were members of the Diplomatic Corps, members of the Guyanese diaspora (including Leaders and Executives of the Religious and Cultural Associations) and Friends of Guyana.

Highlights of the evening included Prayers from leaders and/or representatives of Religious and Cultural Diaspora Associations, Songs and Musical Renditions, Tributes, Reflections from Acting High Commissioner C. Sauers, the Lighting of Candles by those in attendance, the Tolling of the Bell during a video presentation of the faithful departed and a Moment of Silence in their honour.

Prayers were offered for Guyana: A Nation United in Grief, the families and friends of the survivors and the departed, those who have been working tirelessly under challenging conditions to embark upon the search, rescue and recovery mission and all others who are affected by the tragedy.

Attendees also signed a Book of Condolences.
