Canada’s hunters, anglers, trappers, outfitters, and conservation partners have been among our country’s greatest stewards of the land for generations.

They deserve a seat at the table and not be locked out of the very places they’ve helped protect.

We need science over ideology, consultation over bureaucracy, and conservation that works with Canadians, not against them.

Happy Canadian National Fishing Week!

Here’s a photo I’d like to share from a memorable day on the water.

Did you know that more Canadians go fishing than play golf and hockey combined?

Anglers don’t just go out on the water and take, they also give back by volunteering at hatcheries, fish rescues, stream and riverbank cleanup, and doing whatever is necessary to ensure an abundance of healthy fish populations, now and for generations to come.

As we celebrate Canada’s proud fishing heritage and the anglers who enjoy and help conserve them, I hope you have the opportunity to get outside, spend some time on a beautiful lake or river, and make a few great memories of your own.

Congratulations to Sturgeon Slayers on what appears to be a new world-record white sturgeon from the Fraser River.

An incredible achievement and a reminder of the world-class fishing opportunities we have right here in Canada.

Well done to the entire team on an unforgettable day on the water!

Why should you care about the Seal River Watershed Proposal in Manitoba?

Have a read ⬇️

Why should Manitobans care about the Seal River Watershed proposal?
Because it’s not just about the north. It’s about the future of land access across Manitoba.

The proposal would impact nearly 50,000km2 that could change how land is managed, who makes decisions, and what activities are allowed, including licensed hunting and outfitting.

Hunting and angling tourism contribute $1.5 billion annually to Manitoba’s economy. Supporting jobs, communities, and conservation. This proposal puts those contributions into question.

Most importantly, this is the first IPCA of its kind in Manitoba. It will set the precedent for future protected areas across the province, including several in central and southern regions. The MLOA is encouraging folks to consider reviewing this proposal as if it were your favorite outdoor space in question.

Read more in the Winnipeg Sun article to understand what is at stake.

The Alliance, provincial, and federal governments have been working on this proposal since 2021, but we get 45 (now 27) days to try alerting and educating our industry and the public about a proposal that has the capacity to change the future of land access, outdoor activities and Manitoba tourism for generations to come. How is that reasonable?
